Fantastic.

"A family wedding then?"

"Yes," my grandfather replied. "We will have a reception in a couple of months, but I want you married first."

Of course he did.

He pushed away from the desk and then walked around to sit back down in his chair. "This is a good thing, Lancy."

That was debatable.

"Do you even know anything about the man you are marrying me off to?" I asked. "What is he like?"

It would be nice to know something.

"Alejandro is the grandson of a very old friend of mine. That is all I need to know."

Well, at least I had a name now.

"Are my parents going to be there?"

It would be a true shit show if they did.

"I have not informed them of your upcoming nuptials. If you want them there, you should call them yourself."

Hell, no!

If I could keep them from attending anything I was expected to be there for, I would be thrilled. They would spend the entire time arguing and throwing insults at each other instead of spending time on me, their only child.

"You need to spend the next two weeks getting your stuff packed up. I'm sure your new husband will expect you to live with him."

My throat swelled up with fear. "What?"

I was expected to marry some guy I had never met and then move out of the only place I had ever considered a home since I had become an adult, too?

"My understanding from Alejandro's grandfather is that he is handing over their business interests here in the states to Alejandro. That includes a house for you both to live in."

It seemed my whole life was all planned out for me.

I wonder if I got any say in it.

I rubbed my hands over my face. I wasn't sure if I was trying to rub away my fear or my frustration. Maybe both. This was all so surreal.

"I need to go," I said as I dropped my hands and stood up. "I have a few things I need to do."

I wish planning my escape was one of them.

"Don't forget your appointment on Tuesday," my grandfather reminded me.

"I won't."

Walking out of my grandfather's study instead of running was a feat I wasn't sure I would be able to manage until I actually achieved it. By the time I reached my ride, I was so thrilled I could barely breathe.

Might have been panic.

I climbed into the backseat of my chauffeured car and gave my driver directions to take me back to my condo in the city. I had phone calls to make, and I couldn't do that where anyone else could overhear me.

My secret had to stay secret.
