Taking the washcloth from her, I toss it near the towel and say, “Get in bed.”

“I’m sleeping here?” she asks.

“Yes.” I get up and pull the covers back. “Your bed looks like I massacred your pussy.”

“That’s because you did,” she sasses me as her sexy ass crawls beneath the covers.

I lie down beside her, and reaching for her, I pull her tightly to my side. “How’s the pain?”

“Bareable.”

“How was your first time having sex?”

She snuggles against my chest, and the position hides her face from me.

“Look at me,” I order.

She tilts her head back, and when her eyes meet mine, she answers, “Even though it was painful, it was a million times better than I thought it would be.”

“Christ.” I frown at her. “How much pain did you expect?”

“I’m not talking about the pain.” An emotion I can’t quite place tightens her features. “It was a million times better because it was you.”

When I keep frowning at her, she adds, “It wasn’t Stefano.”

Finally on the same page as her, I rub my hand up and down her back before holding her tighter.

“Thank you for saying no,” she whispers.

We lie in silence as I think about everything that’s happened from the moment I laid eyes on Gabriella.

I took her for Dario. At least, that’s the lie I told myself.

Honestly, I took Gabriella because when our gazes locked for the first time, I saw the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.

I tried to fight the attraction, but somehow, she walked past all my defenses and demanded I face the truth.

I fell in love with Gabriella at first sight.

I press a kiss to her hair, then whisper, “Saying no was the best thing I ever did.”

She lifts her head to look at me again, and I bring my free hand to her face. As I brush my fingers over her cheek and jaw, I admit, “You were mine the moment you refused to break eye contact with me.”

She scoots up and presses a kiss to my mouth. “It’s a good thing I’m stubborn.”

Gabriella relaxes beside me again, and I pick up the remote control, turning off the lights.

Staring into the darkness, I enjoy the feel of her body pressed against mine.

The peacefulness of being in my private space wraps around us, and for the first time ever, the presence of another person doesn’t bother me.

Chapter 23

Gabriella

When I wake up, it takes a moment to make sense of my surroundings.

I become aware of Damiano’s arms wrapped tightly around me, my back pressed to his chest. He’s holding me the same way I hold my pillow when I sleep.
