I remembered the click of the cuffs around my wrist and the way her wet tongue trailed over my ear. I cleared my throat, remembering that I was a professional and I would not be swayed by a beautiful woman. “She wanted something from inside his suit. It looked about the size of a card.”

“Great, so she was stalking you as we were stalking him. That’s fucking perfect. Did you get any evidence of who she was?”

“Oh, yeah. When she cuffed me to the pipe, I took the opportunity to steal her wallet.”

“Really?” he said in surprise.

“No, not really,” I snapped. “She was licking my ear. The last thing I was thinking about was finding out who she was.”

“I would have done that,” Patrick remarked. “You know, if I had been conscious.”

“She got the drop on you,” Chase said in amazement.

“Well, she also shot me. Just in case you were wondering.”

“Are you dead?”

“Clearly, I’m not since I’m talking to you.”

“Then stop whining. Geez, Brock was shot in the chest and he didn’t whine this much.”

“He also had a really hot woman looking after him,” I grumbled. “Just saying, no one even asked to look at my wound.”

Chase stared at me in the rearview mirror. “You know, you’re starting to sound an awful lot like Fox.”

“Hey, I didn’t want to come out here. He basically made it so no place would hire me. Don’t blame me.”

“So, this woman—the one who shot you and?—”

“And kneed me in the balls,” I added.

His eyebrows shot up. “And you still think she’s hot?”

“She’s dangerous,” I responded. There was really nothing else to say. It was hot when a woman could take me out. Not that I wanted to make a habit of it, but the fact that she didn’t cower in front of me was fucking sexy as hell.

“Anyway,” he continued, “This woman now has a vital piece of information that we need.”

“We don’t know that for sure. She might have taken something that has nothing to do with why we need Hugo.”

“Right,” Chase snorted. “She took something from a fence and it won’t have anything to do with why we snatched him.”

He was most likely right, but that didn’t mean I had to buy into it. “What’s our ETA?”

“Five minutes. Fox is geared up and waiting for us.”

“I’m sure he is,” I sighed. “I sort of miss the mellow version of Fox.”

“I don’t,” Patrick muttered. “If I had to go to one more meditation seminar naked?—”

“You did what?” I asked, trying not to laugh at him.

He flushed bright red and frowned. “What?”

“You went naked?”

“He told me I had too. He didn’t do the same to you?”

“Yeah, he did. And I told him to fuck off.”
