Sighing, I turned to Edu. “Why do I get the feeling we’re going to regret coming along?”

“Because it’s Fox,” he answered, moving closer to the fucker in the chair.

“Oh, Jerry,” Fox said in a sing-song voice. “Someone hasn’t been playing nicely.”

“What are you talking about?” he asked, his voice laced with panic.

“I’m talking about a certain heiress you’ve been following. Do you know who I’m talking about?”

Jerry shivered in his seat, shaking his head as Fox walked behind him, then popped up right beside his head. “I—I haven’t been following anyone! I swear.”

Fox hummed, running his finger down the guy’s face. “I’m sure you think that’s true. I used to feel the same way. Yep, I stalked my wife. But I can admit on some level that it was wrong. Can you say the same?”

Jerry looked to me for help, but I was rather enjoying the show. And since he wasn’t torturing him yet, I decided to let it play out. “I…I may have followed her a little bit.”

“Who, Jerry? Who were you following?” Fox asked.

“Wren,” the man said as he burst into tears. “I’m sorry. She’s just so beautiful.”

I heard Fox hum, then he started running his fingers through the guy’s hair. Was this some new form of torture? “And what about the letters?”

Jerry flinched in surprise. “The what?”

Fox’s fingers suddenly gripped Jerry’s hair tightly, yanking him up in his seat. “Don’t mess with me, Jerry. I don’t like being lied to.”

“I’m not!” he shouted. “I swear! All I did was take her picture!”

“Like I would ever believe that,” Fox laughed. “You love her. You want to marry her. You want to…seduce her,” Fox said, suddenly changing the tone of his voice. “Tell me you want to marry her, Jerry.”

“No! I swear! I just like the dresses she wears!”

“Why? Tell me why, Jerry.” Fox was suddenly in front of Jerry, crouched down on his haunches. “Why would a man like you be so interested in her dresses?”

Jerry was practically on the verge of tears. I actually felt sorry for the guy. He looked like he was about to mentally break, and I wasn’t sure he would ever recover after being interrogated by Fox.

“Please…” And then he started crying. His eyes kept flicking to the table filled with screwdrivers and pliers. The chainsaw was a nice touch, and I wondered where Fox got all those supplies in the dead of night, but I wasn’t about to ask and become an accomplice. Well, any more than I already was.

“Do you think this guy did anything?” Edu leaned over and asked.

I shook my head. If I had a crazy guy like Fox in my face, I’d spill the beans in two seconds flat. “Nope. This is a dead end.”

“Should we…put a stop to this?”

I shrugged, not sure I was ready. “It would really be a shame to cut Fox short when he’s just getting his groove back.”

Edu grimaced at the same time as me. “Did Fox just…lick him?”

“It’s gotta be some kind of new interrogation technique.”

“Right…For what purpose?”

“I don’t know, but there has to be a reason behind it.”

“It’s Fox,” he agreed.

I nodded, watching the crazy scene play out. Then I thought of something. “You know who could really pull off your yellow vest?”

“If you say Fox, I’ll gut you right now.”
