“Thought I’d check up on my fiancé.” He slid his hand into his pocket, sauntering toward me with that sexy swagger that drew all the ladies’ attention. “So, who is it you’re trying not to fall for?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Sure you do,” he chuckled, stopping beside me. He turned and leaned back against the counter. “It must be one of the new bodyguards. They’re the only ones you’ve been around. And I’m guessing it’s the pretty one who’s been on your arm all night.”

“The pretty one?”

“You know, the one with the cute hair.” He turned and checked himself out in the mirror, slicking back his own hair. “Though, I think mine is better.”

“What’s your point, Bryce?”

He finally gave me his full attention, the seriousness in his expression replacing the jovial smile he walked in with. “It’s fine to screw around. Have fun and get it out of your system. We’re not married yet, and we both know what happens once we are. But make sure you’re discreet about it. The last thing we need after my mistake is a photo of you screwing the bodyguard.”

“I never said I was screwing him.”

“You didn’t have to. I happened to be right outside the door. You can thank me later for keeping anyone from listening in.”

My face flushed red as I turned back to the sink, turning on the water. I couldn’t splash water on my face and ruin my makeup, so I ran my hands underneath, hoping it would cool the rest of me down.

“It was nothing.”

“Wren, you’re talking to me. I know it was nothing. I’ve had more than my fair share of indiscretions. Hell, my reputation precedes me. There’s nothing quite like banging the help. They’re very willing to get down on their knees for you, hoping you’ll throw them some scraps. But that’s all it can ever be. Don’t make the mistake of falling for his good looks. At the end of the day, he can’t give you what you need.”

That just pissed me off. I knew he meant well, but I was so tired of everyone thinking they knew what I needed. I spun and glared at him. “I’m well aware of what our arrangement is, and as much as I know you’re trying to be helpful, fuck off. If I need or want your help, I’ll ask for it.”

He looked at me with his cocky expression, his fingers coming up to brush back my hair. “Watch it, Wren. He’s already starting to change you.”

“Nobody is changing me.”

“You never used to swear. You would never wear your hair down at an event.”

“Unforeseen circumstances,” I retorted.

“Just watch what you say around him. Make sure he’s clear that this can never go anywhere. I’m only trying to protect you.”

He kissed me on the cheek, then turned and strolled out of the bathroom. I turned and looked back in the mirror. The woman staring back at me was a conflicting image of who I thought I would see. Maybe he was right. Maybe I was allowing things to go too far with Brock. But it wasn’t like I planned on making a habit out of it. We had sex twice. And that’s as far as it would go.

The door swung open for a second time and I spun to tell Bryce to leave me alone, but it was Brock instead. Letting out a huff, I turned around. “Do all men think they have the right to walk into the ladies’ room?”

“I do when I’m your protection agent and you’ve been gone for so long. Do you want to tell me why you allowed Bryce in here with you?”

“Why didn’t you stop him?”

“Because I already have eyes on the ladies’ room.”

Spinning, I gaped at him. “You what?”

“I can’t come in here with you all the time.”

“You’re spying on me?” I hissed.

“Spying…watching…Whatever makes you feel better.”

“This has gone too far. All of it. I can’t believe you would spy on me in the bathroom!”

“Don’t worry. I don’t have cameras in the stalls. That would just be intrusive,” he grinned.

“And this isn’t?”
