“Very.” Needing to separate the two before a fight or debate broke out, I linked my arm with Wren’s. “We should circulate.”

She didn’t seem too upset about that. In fact, she loosened up as we walked away. “Your friends are interesting.”

“They’re good guys.”

“Who names their child Fox? That seems terribly tragic.”

“It’s a nickname. He’s very elusive.”

She scoffed in disgust. “He thinks there should be pigs in a blanket at a gala?—”

I gripped her harder, turning her toward me. “You may not approve of the men I work with, but they’re here to keep you safe. Remember that before you open your mouth again.”

“There’s no point in any of you being here. I’ve already told you?—”

“Brock, I’ve spotted one of our targets outside the gala,” Edu said through comms. “He’s looking for our girl.”

I pressed my finger to my ear, trying to hear over the noise of the party. “Keep eyes on him. When you get the chance, snag him.”

“Snag who?” Wren asked. “Who are you talking to? And why do you have your finger to your ear?”

I took her hand in mine, leading her to the dance floor that no one was on yet.

“What are you doing?”

“Dancing,” I said, my eyes wandering around the room. Lock pulled Juliette to the dance floor and did the same. Fox was wandering around with Anna as she circulated while he kept tabs on anyone incoming.

“If one of them is here, chances are the other one will show up also."

“One of them? Who are you talking about?” Wren asked.

“The man stalking you.”

Her eyebrows shot up in surprise. “You actually found someone?”

“We did.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

I wasn’t allowed to reveal that information, so I continued to spin her around the floor. “How long do we need to stay here?”

“Why? Is there something wrong?”

“Nope,” I answered, continuing to glance around the room.

“Then why do you want to leave?”

“Aside from the fact that I’m not comfortable in my own skin in this room? There are too many people, too many potential threats. There are exits all over the place and no way to cover all of them. And since I’m wearing this monkey suit—no matter how dashing I may look—I have no place to put my weapons.”

“I felt one at your waist.”

“Right, but that means I only have two weapons.”

“Two? Where’s the other one?”

I smirked at her. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

She shook her head with a sigh. “What a hard life you must lead. Always looking for a threat. Always wondering where to put your guns. Don’t you ever relax?”
