“You will not be going through my mail,” he said, his jaw clenching hard.

“We will not look at anything that isn’t pertinent to protecting your daughter, but if this guy can’t get to her through normal channels, he’ll find another way. That’s where he becomes dangerous. Desperation makes people do crazy things.”

“Anything else?” Ben bit out.

“Yes, one man will be at the house at all times. Your daughter will have at least one agent with her at all times, most likely two.”

He nodded. “I understand. Is there anything else, gentlemen?”

I started to speak up, but Lock slammed his fist against my chest as I stepped forward, cutting me off.

“No, sir,” Lock said. “We’ll keep you updated of any progress we make.”

Ben turned and walked around his desk, dismissing us in the process. Lock grabbed me by the back of the neck and practically hauled me out of the room, shoving me down the hallway. I kept my mouth shut as we headed back to the room we were using as our base of operations.

Lock slammed the door, glaring at me. “What the fuck are you doing?”

I kept my mouth shut, knowing that arguing wouldn’t do a damn bit of good.

“You don’t ever tell a client that his daughter could end up dead.”

“That guy is a prick,” Edu spoke up.

“He might be, but that doesn’t mean you say shit like that. We work around him. That’s the way it always is with guys like this. Am I clear?”

I nodded at Lock, stuffing my hands in my pocket. “Yes.”

“Good. That being said, Scottie, I want you following him wherever he goes. I don’t want him to know we’ve got a tail on him, so keep your distance. You only intervene if it looks like he’s in danger.”

“Do you think someone will target him, also?” Scottie asked.

Lock looked at me, then shook his head. “No, I think he could have something to do with the letters.”

I did not see that coming. “What makes you say that?”

“He’s rich. He has the world at his disposal, yet he’s giving copies to the police and he hasn’t done anything for security since this started. Yeah, I think he could have had a hand in all this.”

“Edu, you’ll be with Brock on close protection. We’ll trade off every day. Tomorrow, I’ll be at the house. Did you get a chance to look at the letters?” he jerked his head at me.

“Not really. I just skimmed them.”

“Alright, let’s divide them up and go through them. We need to see what we’re dealing with.”

We headed to our wing of the house, then shut the door and checked the video feed. I pulled out the letters and handed them out to each of them. Sitting down, I read through the first, getting an oily feeling just from seeing this guy’s handwriting.

Wren,

From the moment I saw you at the charity event, I knew we were meant to be together. When you smiled at me, I knew I wasn’t imagining things. I will be waiting for you outside the Carlson at one o’clock on Friday.

Yours Forever,

Daniel

“I’ve got a first name and a possible location to check, but no date.”

“I don’t suppose Crosby saved the envelopes these arrived in,” Scottie muttered.

“How does this guy ignore shit like this?” I asked.
