“Your new security team.”

My jaw dropped at that. “My what?”

“Your security team.”

“No,” I chuckled. “You must be mistaken. I don’t have a security team.”

“You do now. Your father hired us.”

My father. Of course, he would hire this oversized baboon to follow me around. He was always so worried about my safety, but I hardly thought bringing in the Neanderthal was the answer. He had a beard, for Christ’s sake! I peered closer at his wrists, then flinched back in disgust. There were tattoos peeking out from under his shirt. Tattoos! Seriously, I was supposed to let a man like him follow me around?

Still, I would not lose it in public and embarrass myself in front of this man. I had a reputation to uphold, and I would not lose my composure.

“Well, I can see you probably have a lot of…scaring people to do. So, why don’t you scurry along and let me finish my meeting.”

I turned back to the ladies, widening my eyes in horror. Rebecca pursed her lips at the man, clearly unimpressed. At least I wasn’t the only person who felt this man was wholly unsuitable.

“As I was saying—” I yelped as my chair was pulled out suddenly, nearly sending me crashing into the table. Then I was hauled bodily out of the chair and thrown over the man’s bulky shoulder. “Help! Help!” I shouted, looking on in horror as cameras snapped from around the room. I was being abducted and they only wanted pictures?

“Would you please put me down?” I asked as nicely as possible.

“No can do,” he uttered.

“Excuse me, but this is not how you treat a lady.”

His low chuckle sent shivers down my spine. “Maybe you’ve never been treated this way. Perhaps that’s the reason for the stick up your ass.”

I gasped in horror. The nerve of this man. “I will sue you—No! I will have you arrested! Unhand me!”

“Unhand you,” he chuckled. “That’s a good one.”

He strolled through the lobby with me and a brisk breeze caught under my skirt, lifting it. “Oh my God,” I said in mortification. “Please, everyone is going to see what’s under my skirt!” I hissed.

If I thought that would help, I was sorely mistaken. Instead, a large arm wrapped around my legs, holding down my skirt. My cheeks flamed in embarrassment as he strolled through a set of double doors. In the distance, I saw the hotel manager watching nervously. He would be fired by morning.

I shrieked as I was suddenly tossed down into a chair. The double doors were slammed shut, making me flinch. I was disoriented and confused, but that was the least of my problems. Four hulking figures stood in front of me, all of them more intimidating than anyone I’d come in contact with at any point in my life. I swallowed hard, trying to regain my composure.

The man who captured me wore all black. A tight black button-down stretched over his shoulders. He really needed a bigger size. I could see a shiny necklace dangling around his neck, but couldn’t make out what was on the chain. At least his hair was styled decently. But that beard had to go. Didn’t men realize how unsightly that was?

“Is there a reason you’re staring at me?” he asked. “See something you like?”

The cocky grin that spread across his lips only angered me. “Actually, I was using a method of distraction to keep me calm. I was simply detailing all the things you would need to do to brush up and look a little more…appealing.”

He actually looked horrified at the implication that he was not the most handsome man in the room. “I’ll have you know I take very good care of myself.”

“You look like a scruffy dog. That beard should be shaved off. No woman wants to feel…that,” I said, jerking my finger at his face, “when a man is kissing her.”

“Clearly, you’ve never had a real man kiss you,” one of the other men stated.

My eyes flicked to his face. He was slightly less scruffy than the first man, but not by much. He was a darker man, which I tried not to notice. It was rude to point out a person was a different skin color. However, I couldn’t help but notice this man was dressed down compared to the others. Whereas the other men wore button-down shirts, this man wore a simple black T-shirt.

“Perhaps if you wish to kiss more women, you might try dressing…a little less like a?—”

I cut myself off, suddenly aware that I might say something offensive.

“Like a what?” he asked curiously.

“Nothing,” I answered quickly.
