“It’s over now,” I whisper to her, kissing her hair. I dismiss everyone else, thanking Nick profusely for defending her.

In a rare show of seriousness, he pats my shoulder and says, “She’s important to you, so she’s important to all of us.” He grins and adds, “Plus, she’s a better friend than you. She’s never beat me up or anything!”

I roll my eyes at him, and Ava giggles in my hold.

“Go shower and sleep,” I tell him. “I’ll call in a clean-up crew in the morning.”

With everyone out, I lock up and carry Ava to bed. Thankfully, this room is untouched, and I lock the door behind us, shutting out the chaos that is the rest of the house. The clean-up crew will have it looking normal by tomorrow evening, but for now, I don’t want Ava to have to lay eyes on any of the blood stains that no doubt are splattered over my floors.

We shower and climb into bed, both of us exhausted. I cup her face, stroking her soft skin and pushing her damp hair out of her eyes. She smiles softly at me, leaning into my touch.

“My brave girl,” I whisper, kissing her softly. “I’m so fucking glad you’re okay. I couldn’t live with myself if you were hurt. I love you too much for that, Ava.”

Her breath hitches. “I love you, too,” she whispers back, making my chest crack open. “I promise I’m okay. Shaken up and tired, sure. But I’m in your arms, Axel. Nothing scares me when I have you.”

“You’ve changed my life, angel,” I tell her as she starts to drift to sleep. “And now, it’s time to change your life, too. I’ll protect you forever, Ava. Just you wait, I’m gonna give you everything you can dream of.”

“You’re all I dream of,” she says sleepily before succumbing to sleep.

AVA

“Hold still, Axel!” I instruct, laughing when he scowls at me. I wipe antiseptic over the wound on his arm, the one that’s pretty much already healed, but still.

He looks after me, and that means I look after him, too. I didn’t even realize he was injured until we woke up the day after the kidnapping attempt and there was blood on the bed sheets. I nearly had a damn panic attack before he woke up and we realized the blood was from his arm. Damn stubborn bastard got shot and didn’t even think to mention it.

In his defense, it is just a graze, and with all the adrenaline in our systems and his focus on making sure I was okay, I can understand why he ignored it. He’s been a nightmare patient, too, insisting he’s fine when I clean and bandage it every day. All I have to do is pin him with a look, though, and he lets me do whatever I want.

“Ava, it’s been a week. It’s healed,” he says with a sigh, raising a brow at me.

“Let me look after you,” I snap back, sticking the bandage down and stepping back. “I love you, Axel. That means I want you to be okay. So deal with it.”

He stands, wrapping his arms around my waist. “I don’t know what I did to deserve you, Ava. I love you, gorgeous. You’re the best nurse I could ask for.”

That makes me giggle, and his eyes crinkle as he smiles. His smile still takes my breath away.

“Besides, not even a fatal wound could stop me wanting to touch you,” he says at the same moment he pounces, lifting me into his arms. On instinct, I wrap my legs around his waist, gasping when I feel him harden against me. “Let me show you just how fine I am.”

I squeal as he jogs through to the bedroom and throws me down on the mattress. My giggles turn to a needy whimper as I watch him yank his t-shirt off with one hand and shove down his sweatpants, stepping out of his clothes.

He prowls towards me like a predator starving for a taste, and my thighs clench as heat pools between them. He braces over me on the bed, caging me in, but this is a cage I never want to escape. My breaths come in short pants, anticipation heating the air between us.

Axel holds my gaze as his hands run over my body, stripping me out of my clothes with slow, sensual movements. By the time I’m as naked as he is, my skin feels like it’s on fire and I think I might explode if he doesn’t hurry up and touch me.

“I’ll never get tired of looking at you,” he groans as his eyes trace every exposed inch of me. “You’re the most perfect girl I’ve ever set eyes on. All mine, Ava, isn’t that right?”

“Yes!” I cry out, arching up in a silent plea for him to touch me. I’m so wet my thighs are damp, and I’m out of my mind with need purely from his closeness. “All yours, Axel. Please, I need you.”

“I’ll give you whatever you want for the rest of our lives, angel,” Axel says in that low voice that sends shivers through me. He slides his hand up my thigh, running two fingers through my center. “Fuck, Ava, you’re soaked for me.”

I can’t do anything but moan in agreement as he fills me with his fingers, dragging my wetness back up to my clit to tease the needy ball of nerves. Just when I think I can’t wait a second longer, Axel slams his mouth to mine the same second he slides his thick, long length inside me.

There’s no air, but I don’t need it to survive anyway. All I need is him. Who cares about oxygen when kissing him is so much more important? We gasp against each other, drink down each other’s moans, rise and fall together.

“So fucking perfect squeezing my cock like that,” Axel praises, lips against mine, as I tighten around him, my orgasm drawing closer. “Fuck, yes, angel, just like that. You gonna come all over my cock?”

“Axel!” I scream as he slams into me, deep and hard, over and over again until bliss crashes into me and sends me flying. Stars flash behind my eyes as I fall over the edge, clutching at Axel’s shoulders as though I can possibly get any closer to him.
