"What do you mean, did Gwen leave?"

"Did Gwen fucking leave? She should have been downstairs ten minutes ago, but she never came down. She texted me right before she left your office. It should have taken her less than three minutes. I walked the whole floor in case she somehow went to the other elevator, but she knew where I always waited."

My heart stopped. I wasn't sure for how long, but it finally kicked into rhythm again, and all I could do was stare at him. The worst-case scenario had happened. My wife was gone.

I dragged in a sharp breath. "What do you mean?"

"We’ve lost the queen. We need everyone. Atticus, are you with me?"

I swallowed hard and nodded as my brain slowly charged up. Gwen. Gwen was gone.

It had happened. She had been here one second and was gone the next. She’d said she was on her way to see Jack.

"Jack. Did you find Jack?"

Rowan frowned. "No, why?"

"That's who she was meeting. Maybe he met her up here?"

He was on his walkie-talkie in seconds, telling everyone to hunt down Jack Farlow.

"We're searching floor by floor. Maybe she took the stairs instead of the elevator,” Rowan suggested.

Oh, fuck.

I charged into the hallway, and the bile started to churn in my stomach as the voices in my head started to play games with me.

You took your eye off the ball. You thought you could play happy family. You didn't protect her enough. And now, someone has taken her.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Where the fuck was she? I just needed her safe and sound and in my arms. I was never going to let her out of my sight again.

My body wanted to curl up and scream at the injustice. All she wanted was her freedom, and when I found her, I couldn't let her out of my sight.

Fuck.

Rowan stepped off the elevator and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Look, we'll find her. Just maybe go back to your office in case she comes back there."

I turned to stare up at him. "No. I should have made sure she got on the elevator."

"Atticus, we’re doing a full sweep. I've got men on thirty, twenty, and ten, all working their way down."

"I'll just start from here, going down."

He nodded and handed me a security monitor panel before pointing out which screens to pay most attention to.

"These are blind spots right here, here, and here. Most essentially go to an office, and we have already checked all of those. She's not there, but we’ve got to look everywhere." Then he fixed me with a deep stare again. "We'll find her."

I nodded. I yanked open the door and started my hunt. I checked every fucking office, every conference room. Hell, I looked under a couple of desks. My executives stared at me. And when I stormed by Micah's office, I could see surprise, but I didn't stop. I was on a mission, and I did not have time to stop and chat.

Before long, I heard footsteps behind me and found my brother in my wake. "What's wrong?"

"Gwen's gone. She left my office and told Rowan she was on her way down. And just like that, she was gone."

He stared at me. "Fuck. Give me something to do."

"Grab a security panel, I'm taking this floor then heading down to the next."

"Okay, I'll text Pierce. We're going to find her, Atticus."
