"Yeah, it’s a shame. I'm so sorry, ladies, but I am in a hurry. I need to go meet Atticus. Um, Lucy, it was good to see you again." I said it through clenched teeth. I didn't mean it. I wanted to know what the fuck that woman was doing in my house.

I gave my sister a tight smile as I jogged into my bedroom, peeling off my jacket and trying to step out of my jeans as I hopped around.

Luckily, Magda had already prepared my dress. It had been steamed and pressed, and the white chiffon plunging neckline was perfect. I hopped in the shower for three solid minutes, then had the quickest moisturizing situation I’d encountered in my life, along with a couple sprays of perfume.

Thankfully, I’d gotten braids this past weekend, so I wouldn't have to fiddle too much with my hair.

I would not have time for a full face, but I could do half a face in the car. I got my little pallet and tossed it on the bed next to my clutch then got dressed in record time. I glanced at my watch. I still had ten minutes.

Okay, I guessed I could do my makeup.

I was slapping on the primer when Morgan came running in. "Hey, are you okay?"

"Yep, why?"

"It's just that you barely said a word to Lucy."

"Yeah, I'm good. We had a weird interaction at the engagement party, but it doesn’t matter. You're interviewing her for your paper. I just wish I’d known she was coming to the house."

"Oh." Morgan looked worried. "I'm sorry. Atticus said I could have anyone over that I wanted. I didn't think to ask permission. But obviously, she's been cleared."

I sighed, tapping my sister's face. "We're fine. I was just surprised, that's all. And you can have anyone you want over. I promise. Besides, I'm Mrs. Price now. So any weirdness is kind of over."

"Okay. I just wanted to check." She stepped back and whistled low. "You are stunning. I hate the fact that you barely need any makeup."

"I'll do my eye makeup in the car. I just want to get a basic face on."

I brushed my brows and then shoved the rest of the makeup that I would need into my clutch. I did a little twirl. "What do you think?"

"You are beautiful, sister. You look like you're getting married. I dig that."

"What shoes do you think?"

"Manolos, obviously."

"Not the Louise Vuittons?"

She shook her head. "No. Definitely Manolos."

She jogged into the closet to pull out the exact shoe that she was looking for. Pink and white with a single jewel at the back of the heel.

The clutch was pink and matched them effortlessly. "Well, I guess you knew exactly which pair."

"Of course I do. My brother-in-law is very lucky to have you. But just in case, make sure you remind him."

I laughed. "Of course."

I grabbed my clutch, and when I walked back to the living room, Lucy turned around and whistled low. "Wow, you are a vision."

"Thank you. It's lovely of you to say so. I'm so sorry I can't stay and chat, but obviously, Morgan knows where everything is. Morgan, Magda is in the building, so if you need something just call her and she'll come up and prepare anything you want."

Lucy laughed. "Oh, trust me, I'm well aware of Magda. And I know where everything is."

I ground my teeth at that. Of course she did. She'd been here before. She was the old me. "Right. Well, have a good night."

I jogged around the dining room, past the kitchen, and back toward the entrance before I realized the damn tickets for the art show we were attending after dinner were in my work bag.

I ran back to the living room. Morgan was walking down the hall by her room, but I didn’t see Lucy with her. Where had she gone?
