I pulled her across my lap, folding the belt and didn’t hesitate, bringing the belt down four times in rapid succession. An incredible feeling of euphoria washed through me. This was exactly where I needed to be and I was with the person who was meant to be mine.

A laugh bubbled to the surface, but I managed to stop it, instead cracking the thick strap across her bottom several more times. While I was certain she was experiencing some form of pain, she was moaning in pleasure. I’d been right about her all along.

She thrived on both aspects of sexual pleasure.

Maybe this was a match made in heaven.

I concentrated on the spanking, grinding my teeth from the way she was shifting back and forth on my already aching cock. She certainly had quite the effect on me.

After caressing her heated skin, I resumed, being methodical as I brought the belt down six times, two of them on her upper thighs. This was my kind of euphoria.

What kind of man did that make me?

She continued squirming and moaning as I finished, finally tossing the belt aside as pure satisfaction settled in. After stroking her hair, I eased her down to her knees again. Together we remained, her head on my one leg, me stroking her hair and leaning back staring up at the stars.

Maybe karma had really brought us together. The thought brought another chuckle.

The sound of my phone was an unpleasant interruption. I absently reached for it on the table, keeping my eyes pinned on the beautiful sky as I answered it.

“Yes? This had better be damn good.”

“Valerio. It’s Braxton.”

I immediately jerked up my head. “What’s wrong?”

“It’s Pops.”

“What happened?”

“He was… He was found in his office slumped over his desk. Val, he died of a massive heart attack. But there’s more.”

The wind was sucked out of me. For all the years I’d wanted to hate my father, I was devastated. “What? I just talked to him less than two hours ago.”

“I don’t know. I arrived at the office and he was there. He’d received a threat. That’s what he’d read just moments before he keeled over.”

Now the rage was penetrating every ounce of sadness.

I would find out whoever did this.

And they would die by my hands.

CHAPTER 25

Valerio

Death.

It was a fact of life. Sure, much like taxes, the event was impossible to stop much like time. It marched on whether you wanted to participate or not.

Yet for me, and possibly for my brothers, all time had stopped, ending with the news of my father’s death. Maybe so but there were far too many questions in my mind at this point. There was something off. I’d bet all I had on that. The timing was odd.

I’d never really thought about my own mortality, even after what I’d been through as a kid… I’d felt so alive I’d shoved the experience aside, living as if every day was my last.

Had it gotten me into serious trouble?

Two brushes with the law and two near-death experiences hadn’t altered my mood. However, time had. Responsibilities had. My mother’s begging might have had something to do with it. Even my stepmother, Gilly, a woman at the time who hadn’t seemed much older than the two kids in my mind had pestered me over the years to settle down. I’d been glad Pops had been given another chance at love and life.

I wanted to say I was heartbroken, but I wasn’t honestly certain what I was feeling.
