So damn beautiful my cock was pinched in my trousers.

I hadn’t believed it was possible but there was no doubt I wanted her now more than before.

“So, what are you going to do?”

Very slowly, I turned my head toward Gage. “You know I’m not the kind of man to take no for an answer. When I see something or someone I want, I take it. Period. If that little woman thinks she is going to be allowed out of my sight, then she has another think coming.”

“O-kay,” Braxton mused. “What exactly does that mean?”

I tossed the napkin, rising to my feet. “It means two things, the first one being war.”

“And the second?” Gage was grinning from ear to ear.

“The second is that gorgeous woman with the ballsy attitude will be coming with me to our resort off St. Martin for several days where she will surrender to my every need. After that, she’s going to become my wife.”

I moved around Braxton’s chair.

“Way to go, tiger,” Gage chimed in.

It was my turn to swagger toward the woman. I was going to set the record and the issue at hand straight right now.

Her two friends were positively horrified, but Selena? She was entirely different than the night before, her eyes full of venom.

Goddamn it, my balls were tight.

“Let’s get something straight, sweetheart,” I said by way of opening a second conversation. “You texted me, not the other way around. If I had to guess, I’d say you were attempting to undermine both me and the company where I also serve as vice president. As you might imagine, I won’t allow that, no matter how sexy and incredible you are. However, I do have a deal to discuss with you. Look for me to drop by your apartment later, cupcake.”

She laughed as I turned, the sound sending shards of electric current into crevices within my body.

Why was it I had the feeling she’d like to shove broken glass into my eyeballs?

Perhaps it would be fun to watch her try.

CHAPTER 13

Selena

Asshole.

Jerkoff.

I was still fuming by the time I got back to my apartment. However, the first thing I did was call my father. I hadn’t been able to admit what an idiot I’d been. It was far too embarrassing. I’d simply accepted the job with some caveats that he and I could talk about later. I was too angry to go over them on the phone.

But Daddy had been thrilled.

I’d also pushed off any concept of a start date for a solid week. I needed time to phase out at the bakery and get my shit together.

I also wanted time to spend on learning everything I could about Progressive Media.

And Valerio’s father.

And Valerio.

“Gah,” I hissed and the moment I turned around, I was forced to stare at the box that had been on my doorstep when I’d arrived back from the infamous lunch.

It was from him.

Him, the man who’d lied to me. Okay, he hadn’t technically lied. We’d both agreed not to share our names, but I had no doubt he’d known who I was.
