Page 16 of Game Night: Truth or Dare

“I wonder where he works out. God, can you imagine the man shirtless and in a pair of workout pants?” Noah fans himself.

I laugh. “I’m pretty sure you can’t just work out at a gym shirtless.”

“Oh, they would totally let him break the rules.”

As soon as Victor walks into the building, past the cafe, and over to the elevators, Noah and I walk back to the line and order our food, leaving me with thoughts of the handsome man.

“Did you see the mock-ups for next month’s Rock Star Edition? You did a great job.” Noah points at his computer screen with a waggle of his blond eyebrows.

After returning from lunch, Michelle predictably placed both of us up at reception while she took the rest of the team into the conference room.

A few co-workers complained Noah wasn't joining them, but everyone knows how busy it gets up front during this time, and reception needs two people there.

Like me, Noah recently moved to Olivia Cove, but unlike me, Noah was instantly popular here at work. Then again, being brothers with two of the world's biggest rock stars would do that to a person.

“They look great,” I say with a bright smile, a sense of pride filling me. I love my job, assuming Michelle actually lets me do it. “Thanks for requesting me to be on your team.”

Marketing and promotion have been a passion of mine since I decided what I wanted to major in at school. I always knew that I would use my business degree in the marketing field, but to get the opportunity to apply my passion to a fashion magazine is surreal.

Noah nods, clicking through the photos. “Of course. Us newbies need to stick together. Ella was excited that I had direct access to the band. She’s been trying to interview Arcade Lake ever since the accident.”

Last year, Arcade Lake’s lead guitarist had some kind of accident that caused them to cancel their entire tour. The band has been very hush-hush, and only recently started making public appearances again.

I study my friend with his tall, lean frame and cotton-candy-pink hair. He could easily be a rock star himself, just based on appearance. But if anything, he looks more like a surfer who should be riding the waves, not wearing a dress shirt and slacks, doing an office job with me. If anyone looked at the two of us, no one would guess we were friends outside of work. Noah is outgoing, fun, and popular. Me, on the other hand? I’m what I like to dub a ‘classic, shy nerd.’

So yeah, while Noah isn’t exactly my type, he’s still gorgeous.

My type just happens to be the athletic man with the mysterious bag, doing who knows what with my new boss in her office.

God, I really need to get out and meet more people if my boss's boyfriend is my only source of excitement.

“You’re coming to my party tomorrow, right?” Noah asks, standing from his seat and stretching.

I chew on my bottom lip and avoid eye contact. “I don’t know. You know how I get with crowds.” I tend to get nervous with big groups of people, but what I really can’t tell Noah is I’m also trying to avoid my ex, Carter.

A.K.A., Noah’s cousin.

I’ve never had the guts to tell Noah that Carter cheated on me. How exactly do you tell someone that their own flesh and blood is a complete asshole?

Noah pouts. “Oh, come on, Lawson. You need to live a little. Plus, it’s my birthday.” He plops himself back into his chair and rolls it closer to me, invading my personal space.

My lips twitch at his antics. Wasn’t I just thinking I needed to get out more? This could be good for me, plus Noah has been dying to introduce me to his friends, Jules and Rowan.

“Fine,” I huff.

Noah pumps his fist into the air and shoots me a dazzling smile. “Promise?”

“Yes, yes. I promise,” I say, waving his words away. “Now shoo. People are going to think you’re flirting with me.”

Noah rolls back to his side of reception. “God, I wish I was hitting on you. If I wasn’t so damn hung up on what’s-his-face, maybe I would.”

I roll my eyes. “I’m not even your type.”

“That’s beside the point.” He grins.
