“Mom, it’s just after midnight,” Nova said. “I’m sure Nick is fine. Probably at a friend’s house.”

“Go find him for me. Where is my only son?”

Nick was Nova’s younger brother. The baby of the family. Her mother clung to him in a strange way too. Nick could never do no wrong. He was the only man in her mother’s life. Nick knew that and played that hand perfectly.

“He’s missing! I know it, Nova! I know it for sure!”

“Mom…”

“It’s been almost two days!”

“What?” Nova asked.

“I haven’t seen him since Thursday, Nova. That’s two days. Right? What day is it?”

“You’re telling me Nick hasn’t been seen in two days and you’re telling me now?”

“I figured he was out having a good time. You know he likes to have a good time. Where is he, Nova? Where is my baby boy? My sweet, little angel. Go find him, huh? Go find your brother. Be a good girl…”

Her mother slurred and rambled some more. Nova ended the call. The delivery app gave her a stern reminder to get her ass moving to the pizza place to pick up the next order. If Nova cancelled the order it would count against her account. Too much of that and she’d get less orders or get kicked off the app.

She started to drive. Her heart pounding inside her chest. Her mother’s drunken voice played in her head. Her brother always did stuff like this. Go out on a bender or binge or whatever. There was no way Nick was missing. Nope.

The app warned Nova again. She drove faster, waving a middle finger at her phone. Her mother texted her.

MOTHERS INSTINCT IS ALWAYS RIGHT! SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY BOY! YOUR BROTHER IS MISSING! HE’S MISSING!

Nova swallowed hard. The scariest part… there were a lot of bad people and bad groups in and around this town… Meaning if Nick were to be in some kind of trouble…

There was a good chance Nova’s brother was already dead.

Chapter Three

Outlaw Royalty

“Where’s my ride?” Linc asked as he rested spread out on the table meant for prayer but had often seen more blood than most wanted to actually admit.

“We got you covered, brother,” Darrow said. “Monte showed up with the big boy and hauled your ride here. I’ve got Virus and Fitz already working on it.”

“They fucking shot me,” Linc said.

“Who is they?” Cyrus asked.

The President of Sins of Fire Real Anarchy West stood five-ten tall, black clothes, black leather, black hair, and eyes just as black.

He leaned over his VP and waited for an answer.

“No idea,” Linc said. “Had to be something with Monte though. We were separated on purpose.”

“He’s fine,” Priest said. “Not a scratch.”

“This was a hit on your life,” the old man Custer growled from a seated position with a homemade cigarette dangling between his lips. “I can give you some names if you’d like. I’ve got some real good names to say.”

“Can the fifties bullshit memories, old man,” Cyrus said. “Our VP took a bullet to the shoulder. Fucking close to his chest. You know what we’d be doing right now…?”

“Looking at a fucking casket,” Slade said. “Jesus, brother.”

Slade grabbed for Linc’s left hand.
