“We should,” she agreed, her hands clenching in his shirt, fisting the soft material. “But Agastya?”

He didn’t have a hope against the soft plea in her voice. “Yes?”

She touched her lips to the corner of his mouth. “I don’t want to stop. I don’t just not want that. I want more.”

She tugged at his shirt bringing him impossible closer. “I want all of you. And then…I still want more of you.”

VEDA

The heat of his gaze was a brand against her back as she danced with Priyanka and a few other friends who’d joined them that night. Veda closed her eyes, gave herself up to the music, and enjoyed being tracked by her man like he had a laser pointer on her butt.

“My brother’s drooling,” Priyanka laughed.

Veda’s cheeks warmed but she didn’t look away from her friend. She loved this. She loved having Agastya want her. After years of pining for the man, of staring at him like a lovelorn fool, he was finally looking back. And God was he looking…

Her doubts about this marriage were slowly starting to fade. Agastya may not love her. Yet. But he wanted her. And she could work with that. She could definitely work with that.

“The engagement is tomorrow right Veda?” Sakshi, one of her friends, asked.

Veda nodded. Engaged to Agastya Kodela. Excitement shivered under her skin. How was this her life? She still felt she was going to blink and wake up, to find out she’d been dreaming all along.

“So, Priyanka, does this mean Harsh is next in line to get married?” Sakshi asked coyly.

Priyanka rolled her eyes. “Harsh is not getting married anytime soon.”

“Aww.” Sakshi pouted.

Veda suppressed a mental groan at her friend’s antics. Why was she still friends with Sakshi? They’d gone to school together but maybe they’d outgrown each other along the way. Either way…

A hard, muscled arm slid around her waist, hauling her up against an even harder chest and interrupting her train of thought. Veda turned, her eyes clashing with the light, caramel-coloured ones of her fiancé. Gorgeous, she thought, as her heart stumbled. He was absolutely gorgeous.

“I have to go,” he told her.

Disappointment crashed through her, a wave of it that was disconcerting in its strength. “Why?” she asked, sounding like the hopeless lovesick idiot that she was.

“I have work.”

“It’s the middle of the night,” Veda protested. She honestly wanted to slap herself but for some reason, this needy, clingy mess was what this man had reduced her to.

“Politics,” he told her quietly. “Is not work only done in the light of day.”

He released her and turned towards his sister, kissing Priyanka on the cheek. “Bye Chinna. Thank you for the lovely party.”

“You were here for half an hour,” she pointed out, pouting.

“I know. I can’t believe I stayed that long,” he told her, his voice a gentle tease.

Priyanka laughed and shoved at his arm. “Is it a big problem?” she asked, her smile fading a little.

“They’re all big problems,” he told her, ruffling her carefully tousled waves of hair. “But it’s nothing for you to worry about.”

He turned back towards Veda, his intent gaze sweeping over her practically leaving scorch marks. “Bye,” he said briefly.

And then he was leaving, walking away through the crowd, his retinue making way for him and ensuring no one got too close.

Veda’s heart thrummed, a strange, unexplained fear gripping her.
