It was. It truly was. Priyanka’s wedding had been insane and that would be nothing compared to the three ring circus that would be expected from Agastya’s nuptials.

But that was just a wedding. What Veda was looking forward to was the marriage that came after. Her stomach squirmed in excitement at the thought of the years that lay ahead. Years with Agastya.

Surreptitiously, she pinched her arm. The stinging pain brought an even bigger smile to her face. It was real. Her unreal reality.

“We should tell Raashi,” Ram said now.

“She needs to come home.” Veda’s heart did another little twirl at the thought of seeing her younger sister. The three of them would be together again after all these years.

“Will she though?” Ram sounded doubtful.

In response, Veda slipped her phone out and videocalled her sister. Raashi answered almost immediately, her round glasses slipping off the tip of her red nose.

“Raashi! Why aren’t you dressed more warmly?” Ram Anna immediately launched into protective older brother mode.

Raashi rolled her eyes at them. “Talk fast,” she ordered. “I have a class in five minutes.”

“You need to come home. I’m getting married,” Veda blurted out. There. Was that fast enough?

Raashi didn’t move nor did she utter a sound. Was the screen frozen?

“Raash?” she asked uncertainly.

“Say that again?” her sister asked, a tiny frown line appearing between her brows. A sign that the big brain in their family was thinking hard.

“I’m getting married.”

“To whom?” The frown line deepened.

“Agastya.” When there was only silence for a second, she added, “Priyanka’s brother.” As if they knew any other Agastyas.

“You’re marrying The Kodela?” The frown line was now a groove.

Veda laughed nervously. “You make that sound like I’m marrying The Terminator.”

“Aren’t you?” Ram asked wryly, ganging up with Raashi and picking on her too.

“Is it the first of April or something?” Raashi asked. “Did I lose track of dates so badly?”

Veda laughed. “No Raash. It’s not a prank or a joke. Although, it does feel like one.”

“What do you mean?” her siblings said as one.

“I mean,” she said awkwardly. “Like you said, he’s The Kodela. And I’m me. It isn’t exactly…” her voice trailed off.

“He doesn’t deserve you,” Ram growled.

Veda hugged him tighter, appreciating the vote of confidence but not believing it. She looked at her younger sister who hadn’t said a word.

“When is this wedding?” Raashi asked finally.

“Soon. We don’t know as yet.” Ram shrugged. “But it will be very soon. The families aren’t going to wait.”

Raashi’s face tightened, a wealth of emotion flitting across it.

“Raash, you don’t have to come,” Veda said gently, knowing her sister’s aversion to coming home.

The frown was back. “Do you want me to come?” Raashi asked.
