His attention slides to her temporarily, the small reprieve allowing me to gather myself.

“You two got everything ready? With the promotion of a free guest starting today, we should be fairly busy,” he asks.

I nod quickly, fidgeting with the pen to the right of my keyboard. “Yup, we got everything.” It’s a small victory that my voice doesn't tremble, but I know my cheeks are still burning red.

“Excellent. I know I can always count on you two. Let me know if you need anything,” he says, tapping his knuckle on the raised counter we’re sitting behind.

Malissa smiles. “Of course.”

Callum starts to walk to his back office up the stairs.

I raise my hand, waving in a jerky motion. “Have a nice dick—I mean day. Day! Oh my god.”

My face slams into my folded arms on the desk, my hair falling around me and shielding me from view. Bile rises up in my throat, embarrassment constricting the air in my lungs as my whole body heats from humiliation.

Malissa lets out a loud cackle before I feel her stroking my back. “He’s gone. He didn’t even look, probably didn’t want to embarrass you more.”

A sob hiccups out of me and she snickers. I peek out at her beneath my lifted elbow. “Type up my resignation. I quit.”

Thankfully the non-stop flow of members and their guests kept me busy enough throughout the morning that I had little time to focus on my Freudian slip. It also helped that Callum hadn’t bothered to come out front. I told myself that he was probably busy with members instead of avoiding me.

A book drops in front of me, making me startle with a yelp and squeeze my water bottle. It splashes all over my shirt, and I can feel the coldness of the drink seeping down to my bra. I toss the plastic to the side and pinch the wet material off my chest.

“Shit! My bad,” Malissa apologizes, grabbing one of the promo towels sitting behind us and tossing it to me. “Want one of the shirts instead?”

I attempt to dab off the excess water before giving in and grabbing the promo t-shirt. Glancing around, I pull mine off and quickly drag it over my head. Thankfully, we usually have a lull of members around lunch hours so the chance of accidentally flashing my tatas is minimal. I unclip my bra, dragging it off my arms under the shirt.

“Sorry,” she says sheepishly.

Settling back into my chair with a glare, I glance down at the book. “Erin’s Imperfect Guide to Seducing a Man’s Willy and the Useless Organ in His Chest. Is this a real book?”

“Okay, hear me out,” Malissa says, laughter evident in her tone. “You can’t get any worse than what happened this morning. I walked down the street to that bookshop, DNF. The employee there, which… oh my god. Her name is Story and she sells stories, how fun is that?”

Smiling, I grab the book. “That’s pretty cool.”

“Anyway, I was browsing and I found this. I figured it would help with your little problem.”

My eyebrows scrunch. “My little problem?”

Malissa shrugs. “Well, I guess big problem because there’s nothing little about Callum’s—”

“Okay! I get it,” I interrupt her and flip to the first chapter. My eyes widen as I read the headline in disbelief. “Step One: Release Your Inner Wanton Goddess. Yeah, I don’t have a wanton goddess inside of me, considering I’ve never had anything inside me.”

Malissa shakes her head. “It’s not about experience, it’s about what we feel deep inside of us. You want Callum, don’t you?”

My cheeks burn and I look around. “Shhh. Could you have said that any louder?”

She waves her hand. “The only person who cares that you’re a virgin is you. Believe me, most guys view it as some kind of trophy. I bet Callum is just too nice of a guy to pursue you because your innocence is written all over your face.”

Malissa steps closer to me, tapping the cover of the book. “So you need to make it obvious that you don’t want him to be a gentleman, and this will do it.”

I glance down at the guide, uncertainty coursing through me. She leans down, tucking my hair behind my ear. “Now have a nice dick day and read it.”

She’s already leaping away with a laugh when I swat at her before turning back to the book. Maybe she’s right. It couldn’t make matters any worse.
