“Please go to bed. It’s been a very long day and an even longer night. You’re really going to regret this tomorrow.”

“I’m not,” she said. “I know you’re going to fire me after today, so why not just do now what I’ve always wanted to do.”

I watched her, so completely captivated that I had the eerie suspicion that I just might never be able to look away ever again.

“What exactly do you want to do then?” I asked.

“I want to be me,” she replied. “I want to... I'm tired of dressing so badly all the time. That's not me.”

I nodded in agreement, unable to keep my gaze from going down her body.

“I understand,” I said. “And you're right. You don't have to dress that way. But I never told you to dress that way before. That was how I met you.”

“They were the instructions given to me by HR,” she replied.

I was taken aback. “What? Who? Derek?”

“Yes,” she replied. “He almost didn’t give me the job. He said that I had the qualifications and would gel well with you, and that I was what you needed, but that I was too attractive, and you hated those kinds of distractions. He said that every time you?—”

She suddenly stopped then and shut her eyes.

“Hm,” I replied. "Are you okay?”

“No,” she grumbled, and I couldn’t help my amusement.

“Stop laughing,” she nearly began to cry once again. “This is humiliating.”

“Please don't cry,” I said. “We were talking now. What did Derek say about my past experiences? I mean, I know, but I just want to clarify.”

She looked at me as though I had stabbed her, and I wondered once again what was going on through that head of hers.

“What is it?” I asked.

“You really...” she croaked. “You really don't care for me, do you?”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“I’m standing before you naked right now, and you don’t even care. Am I that unattractive?”

I stared at her and had to admit to myself that she was one of the most beautiful women I had ever met. I just hadn’t realized it till now, and beauty like hers wasn’t something I usually paid attention to. However, with her theatrics for the night so far, I couldn’t help but notice. I noticed a lot of things about her. She was hilarious, intelligent, and so out of control when she was drunk that if it wouldn’t hurt her, I wouldn’t mind seeing this side of her more often. And a part of me felt kind of guilty now that I was settled enough to think things through because the fact of the matter was that I had allowed her to get this drunk. I could have stopped him from pouring her drinks way before it was too much, but I didn’t. And I felt deeply apologetic about this. However, I didn’t know how to fix this now.

I gave all of this a thought, and then I sat up.

“You know everything could go back to the way it was,” I said. “All you have to do is put your clothes back on and go to your room.”

At my words, I realized in an instant that I was going to regret this for the rest of my life. Her expression turned instantly vile.

“Don’t tell me to go to my room!” she yelled, and I was startled. And then, I burst out laughing. God, she was fucking adorable. I leaned into the chair and truly hoped that I could record this because when I told her about it the next day, there was absolutely no way that she was going to believe anything that I was saying.

To my surprise, however, she started to head towards me. She wobbled and almost fell, but then she managed to catch herself and thankfully finally kicked off her shoes. She arrived before the chair and instantly sank down to her knees.

“What are you doing?” I asked as she grabbed my belt.

“You know what? I’m young,” she said. “I’m not going to wait anymore, and I don't care if you fire me.”

“Trust me, you'll care tomorrow, Madison,” I said. “And if you don't stop right now, I will truly fire you.”

“I don’t care,” she said, and then my zipper was pulled down.
