“It’s not Braxton Hicks?” I ask.

Her face contorts in pain. “Nope.”

“Okay…” Vincent starts moving, instantly stepping up to guide her into a chair. “Sit down. I will run upstairs, grab your suitcase, and we’ll go.”

“But what about the party?” she asks.

“Jake and I will stay and help Tommy close up,” I say. “You just worry about having a baby— you’re having a baby!” I squeal in excitement.

Vincent nods at me. “Thanks, Anna.”

I shove him toward the door. “Go. Suitcase.”

“Right.”

He bolts out the back door and cuts across the alleyway into the bakery.

Evey leans over. “Wooo…” she hums. “Oh, this go fast…”

I take her hand. “Evey, you’re gonna be fine.”

She exhales and looks at me. “Wait, what he mean our baby?” she asks, her jaw dropping. “Is another baby?! Are you baby?!”

“Wow, you really can’t form proper sentences right now, can you?”

She squeezes my fingers. “Baby?!”

I clench in pain. “Yes!”

“Baby?” she asks, relaxing.

“Yes, baby. Me baby.”

She screams in excitement, prompting the door to the bar swing open. Tommy and Jake linger in the doorway with confused faces.

“What’s going on?” Tommy asks.

Evey inhales. “I’m in labor, Vincent is grabbing my stuff, and Anna and Jake are pregnant.”

I gasp. “Now you can speak properly?!”

Tommy’s jaw drops. “Now you’re pregnant?!”

The back door opens and Vincent rushes in with Evey’s suitcase, a few coats, and his car keys. “All right, Evey. How we doing?” he asks, out of breath.

“Baby,” she says, smiling.

I roll my eyes and pry my hand from her grip. “She’s all yours, little brother. Good luck!”

“Thanks — wait, where’s Zach?” he asks.

Jake backs up into the bar. “I’ll get him.”

Evey stands up, clinging to Vincent’s arm as he guides her toward the alleyway. “Drive quickly, please,” she begs.

Jake returns with Zachary and Charlotte at his knees. Zachary runs to catch up with his parents as we all wave goodbye.

Vincent takes his hand and looks back at me. “We’ll keep you updated.”
