Chapter 13: Corinne

Lying in the dark with Ryker drawing patterns on my back, I try to remember why I didn't like him all these years and why I told Alexandra I hated him. He wasn't kidding when he said this would be the best sex of my life. Now I know what the phrase 'fuck your brains out' really means. My legs feel like jello and I'm pretty sure if I wanted to walk to the bathroom right now, I'd fall over. I'm not sure what to even say to him right now, but a thousand things float through my head.

"I don't suppose you're going to apologize for starting a fire yesterday, are you?" Ryker asks after a few minutes.

I shake my head. The sun has officially set. The light it previously proffered was now gone, plunging us into a state of darkness. "No, because I think it worked out for all the parties involved. Alex and Shane are finally going on a date, which was all I wanted. You and I had no business being set up, yet here we are, living our best lives." I rolled over onto my side to face him. "I think everyone's happy. Right?"

Ryker studies my face in the dark, though I'm not sure what all he could see unless the moonlight from the window gave him a better vantage point. "That depends. Do you still want to see me after tonight? Or are you going to take your orgasms and leave me high and dry? That'd be a little rude, but I think it's something you'd try and pull."

"While I do tend to do things just to spite you, I don't think that'll be the case this time around," I reassure him. "Besides, Leo seems to really like me and I still need to go through your underwear drawer. I won't be able to do that if I don't come back, you know?" I run a hand through my hair to try and fix it. I'm sure it looks like a mess after what this man did to me. "I definitely think you should be the one to tell Nathan though. You're best friends after all."

"What?" He frowns. "No, that's not fair. You're his sister. You tell him."

"By that logic, I'm going to have to tell him if we get married or have a kid or when you die one day under mysterious circumstances." I shake my head. "No, absolutely not. You have to tell him. I will settle for telling you that you're dead. That's it."

Ryker blinks at me and sighs heavily because, as always, he's done with my shit. I've once again layered it on too thick. "If we're going to date though, you can almost guarantee that your bottom is going to get spanked again for sass like that, little missy."

At this, I can't help but smile. "I'm counting on, sir. That's one of the few perks of dating you, I think." Leaning forward, I kiss him. "You know, besides the whole hot firefighter thing. And the cat. And the Italian food. And the great sex."

"Sounds like I've got a lot going for me," Ryker boasts.

"Don't get a big head, Beer Can," I warn him, "we can't afford any more giant body parts in this house."

With a smack on the ass, he goes in for a second kiss. "What did I say about the Beer Can thing, you little brat?"

I bite my lip and pretend to think about it. "Only that I can call you Beer Can as often as I want, wherever I want. Nothing else though." With a third kiss, he seals this new relationship of ours. Who knew that dating my brother's best friend was going to be so fun? "You're too cute, Special K, but you're gonna need to relax. You're making it way too easy to push your buttons."

He narrows his eyes and looks down between us at that special place between my legs. "You be careful, little girl, before I start pushing your buttons."

"Don't threaten me with a good time."
