“I’ll explain later,” he said, and now that I was out of the loop, I had no choice but to listen to him.

So, I quickly grabbed my purse, then let Declan lead me out of the room, closing the door behind him, and that’s when I noticed that he had gloves on. Whatever this was, he’d had enough time to plan the details, and I found myself getting pissed off. I had risked a lot by agreeing to this, and Declan had disregarded that risk by changing things up on me and not even bothering to let me know.

My mind really started racing when Declan grabbed my arm, then started dragging me down the hall in the opposite direction. We were practically at the end of the other side of the third floor when Declan pulled out a keycard, swiping it at a door that I’d had no idea that he had rented.

I was going to kill him.

“What in the hell are you doing?” I hissed. “What are we doing here?”

Instead of answering me, Declan pushed me into the room, and it looked very much like the one that Cooper had rented, only this room had a half-naked woman lying on the bed, a black blindfold covering her eyes, and a smug-looking Noah Murphy smirking at us from over the bed.

I was at a loss for words, which was a good thing since I had no idea if the woman in the bed was in on this or not. However, even if I hadn’t been at a loss for words, Declan was already dragging me into the bathroom, so I wouldn’t have had time to say anything, even if I’d wanted to.

As soon as he shut the door behind him, Declan took my face in his hands. “Did he touch you?”

Instead of answering, I asked, “Declan, what is this?”

“Did that sonofabitch touch you?”

“No,” I bit out. “We’d barely gotten to the room, but I have a feeling that you already know that.”

“Baby-”

“Declan, what the fuck is going on?” I asked, cutting off whatever he’d been about to say.

“There was a change of plans,” he said, not telling me anything significant.

“Well, no fucking shit.”

Chapter 25

Declan~

I let go of Keavy’s face, then took my gloves off, stuffing them in my back pocket. I’d burn them later, but for now, I didn’t want them touching her precious skin. In fact, I wanted to erase this entire night from her fucking memory, wishing that I’d never gotten her involved in any of this, and knowing that it was a regret that I was going to take to my grave.

“You need to tell me what the hell is going on, Declan,” she insisted. “How in the hell am I supposed to know what to do if you don’t tell me?”

“We’re having a foursome with Noah and the woman out there,” he replied, making me blink in disbelief.

“What?”

“That’s going to be our alibi,” I clarified. “That’s why she’s blindfolded. Noah thought that it’d be a good way to disorientate her. You know, help her lose track of time.”

I watched Keavy let out a heavy sigh. “Why the change of plans, Declan?”

My hands were back on her face. “Because I couldn’t stand the idea of that motherfucker putting even one hand on you,” I confessed. “Because I never should have sent you to take care of something that I should have taken care of ages ago. Because it’s my job to protect you.”

“Declan-”

I shot her a look, effectively shutting her up. “Look, I know that you can take care of yourself, and while I don’t have a problem with that, Cooper Donaldson was my problem, not yours.”

Her green eyes flared a bit, but she quickly tamped down whatever she was really feeling. “You still haven’t told me the plan,” she said. “Other than having a foursome with Noah and his girlfriend, what else do I need to know.”

Dropping my hands from her face, I took a step back, not sure what was happening, but Keavy wasn’t wrong about insisting to know the details. Our stories needed to match, and while the girl that Noah had blindfolded was a non-factor, the rest of us needed to be on the same page if we were questioned by the police, which we were going to be with Cooper Donaldson being who he was.

“Noah rented the room in his name,” I told her, finally letting her in on the details. “So, we’re going to say that you rented a room for us, but when you went upstairs to wait for me, I showed up to tell you that we were going to join Noah and his friend instead.” She nodded absently, memorizing the story. “Then we’re going to say that once we got to Noah’s room, we didn’t leave until we really did leave.”

“What about what I’m doing here?” she asked. “They’re going to want to know who I am, right? They’re going to want to know if I really…hang out here.”
