“We have a survivor, and he’s being held in a warehouse.” He chuckled. “We can talk about how clichéd it is that he’s tied to a chair in an abandoned warehouse later.”

I shook my head and got out of bed. “I just need to freshen up; can we leave in fifteen?”

“Whatever you’d like. He’s not going anywhere.”

I pulled on my clothes, went to my room to clean up properly, then to the sitting room. When I arrived, everyone was already there. Aiden was in the corner, talking with Vincenzo, so I joined them.

“How are you feeling?”

He patted his arm. “It was just a graze; I’ll live.”

“Thank God.” I smiled and looked at Vincenzo. “Everyone ready?”

“Waiting on you.”

“You’re going?” Aiden asked. “Could be dangerous leaving the house again.”

“Not with the others dead. This guy has answers, and I’m gonna get them.”

Aiden shrugged. “Fair enough. Let’s do this.”

We took one SUV. Some of Vincenzo’s people stayed at the house to watch over things, and the rest were with Beau at the warehouse.

“I remember this building,” I said as I exited the vehicle. “They used to make candy here. I loved walking by here as a kid—you’d get a sugar high off the fumes.”

Vincenzo laughed. “Might be why it closed.”

It had actually closed down because the owner of the warehouse couldn’t pay for the protection my dad had demanded he take, so he’d sabotaged all the machinery, which had started a fire, and as soon as it was all out, my pops bought the spot and did nothing with it. Well, I imagine he’d done with it what I was doing right now.

“Did you know I own this property?”

Vincenzo smirked. “Maybe.”

And he called me a brat. Once we got to the door, he pulled it open.

“After you.”

“Such a gentleman.” I took a deep breath and made my way to the center of the room, where a man I’d never seen in my life sat tied to a chair.

He tilted his head to the side, a slight sneer all I could see of his face. A stranger, someone who didn’t know me, had taken money to remove two of the most important people in my life.

Before I left tonight, I’d make sure he understood the huge mistake he’d made.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

Vincenzo

Rafferty Byrne was hunched in the seat; only his grimace could be seen. Each ankle was tied to a leg of the metal chair someone had bolted to the floor. His hands were tied behind him, and blood was dripping from the side of his head.

Fred regarded him with an expression one might equate to a scientist trying to figure out a new specimen.

“This is Rafferty Byrne, the sole survivor of the Byrne family of mercenaries…assassins…shitbags? What are you guys calling yourselves these days?” I asked. Of course, he had no idea who I was or how I’d have this information, but when he lifted his head I saw his eyes widen.

“I believe you know Mr. Brennan?”

“Funny, I haven’t had the pleasure.” Fred grinned and took a step closer to Rafferty. “So, you’re the one who has decided to take it upon themselves to kill everything in the world that matters to me.”

“And you have done the same to me. My brothers and cousins are dead.” He spat on the floor right near Fred’s feet.
