He had a point. “I can’t stay here. The longer I hide, the more power my enemies gain.”

“You’re not ready. You still need to heal.”

The medical professional in me knew he was right, but the bloodthirsty part of me who sought revenge for Sean and Aine spoke up. “Maybe let me decide what I can and can’t do, Aiden.”

He jerked back as if I slapped him. “I didn’t mean…” He sighed. “You’re angry.”

“No shit. The only two people who gave a shit about me in this world are dead. Because of me.”

“Not because of you.”

“And you know this, how?” I stared at him waiting. “You don’t, do you?”

“We don’t know anything, Fred.”

“And we’re not going to gather much information from here. We need to be out there and looking these fuckers in the eyes.”

He plopped onto the chair beside me. “Have any ideas?”

“I do.”

He swept his arm out. “Care to share with the class?”

“As dramatic as it sounds, I’ll face them all at Sean and Aine’s funeral. They’ll be buried in the Brennan plot, and it will be done together…just like how they died. And there I will see all their faces, and if even one of them flinches, I’ll cut their heads off.”

“You’ve never been this brutal in all the time I’ve known you.”

I narrowed my eyes at Aiden. “I never wanted any of this; that’s no secret. But by the time I’m done with this fucking family, I’ll make them all wish they never crossed me. I will make them wish Aine was the head, and they can drown on their regrets until their last breath.”

“Whoa.” Aiden stood. “That’s if any of them are responsible. You can’t go in there, guns blazing, without proof.”

I smirked, anger filling my heart. “Oh, I’ll have proof.”

“How can you be sure you’ll get it?”

My smirk turned into a full-blown grin. “Because whoever did this either didn’t realize I was allied with Lex Talionis, or didn’t realize how unstoppable they are. They sealed their fate when their bullets missed me, Aiden.” I stepped closer and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“I won’t miss, they will pay, and we will have our revenge.”

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Vincenzo

I felt Zion before I heard him. “He doesn’t trust you.”

I chuckled lightly. “He doesn’t trust anyone, and why should he?”

Never had I let anyone speak to me the way Fred had and walk away the same person. Then again, I’d never met anyone quite like that man, and he was suffering inside. I’d let him use me as a punching bag this once.

“He trusts Aiden.”

I turned to look at Zion, noting a change in his tone. “Should he not?”

He had his laptop in hand and sighed. “Eden got back to me with more information.”

“Should Fred hear this?” I motioned toward the pool house.

“Yes, but maybe only Fred.” He narrowed his eyes. “Lex Talionis are the only people I feel are one hundred percent not responsible for this. More and more, the evidence we pull up is proving how unsafe Fred is, and one of us should be with him at all times.”
