I narrowed my eyes. This Axel knew a lot about me, and I only knew he was decent-looking and smelled nice.

He stood, blood pressure cuff in hand. “May I?”

I watched carefully as he went about testing my blood pressure. When he removed the cuff, I lifted a brow. “A little high, but not dangerously. Here.” He handed me my glasses. “Your glasses cracked a little; new ones have already been ordered. Your driver said to keep them nearby in case you wanted them, so you could grab them and freak out less.”

I wore my glasses so much, but I mainly needed them for reading far away. “Uh, yeah, still freaking out.”

Axel smirked. “But you’d likely panic more without them.”

“You don’t know that, or me, or anything…Seriously, who the hell do you work for?”

“Me.”

I turned to the doorway, where a man dressed in a casual suit, dark-brown hair tucked behind his ears ending just below his lobes, stood. His eyes were on the inky side, but not too much so. He had a nice five-o’clock shadow going on and was quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever seen.

Words…find words, Fred.

“Well, Me, am I supposed to know Me?”

He snorted, and the motherfucker smiled. “Definitely a brat.”

“Excuse me?” I whipped the covers off, silently thanking whoever had put me in the bed for putting clean clothes on me.

“Do I know you? I don’t think so.”

“You do…somewhat.” He shrugged and moved over to the bed. “Allow me to properly introduce myself.”

He held out his hand, but I just glared at it.

“My name is Vincenzo Belini.”

Well, fuck me sideways into Sunday.

CHAPTER NINE

Vincenzo

Fred stared at me through his black-rimmed glasses, sizing me up, and the beautiful blush that graced his cheeks was enough to tell me that even with the nightmare he was going through, he appreciated what he saw.

I pulled my hand away when it appeared he wasn’t going to shake it. “You’ve been through a lot, Frederick. Axel here has been caring for you, so maybe don’t give him such a hard time.”

That snapped him out of it. “Excuse me?”

“You’ve been through a trauma. Please stay calm.”

He huffed, and it took everything in me not to chuckle as he made a show of getting out of bed. He wobbled but seemed to find his bearings.

“For two years, I tried to get you to meet with me and now, after my life is obviously going tits up, you grace me with your presence, and then have the nerve to order me around?”

“I meant no disrespect.”

He snorted. “What would you call this”—he gestured to my person—“whatever you’re doing?”

“Zion was planning to make arrangements, as you know. I’ll admit these recent events altered those, and here I am.”

Fred opened and closed his mouth a few times. I waited. He’d just lost his uncle and cousin, the two people closest to him, but he was upset with me, and that was a burden I’d take on if it meant he wouldn’t fall apart.

He looked down at himself before meeting my gaze once again. “Do I have clothes other than pajamas?”
