I lifted my head enough so I could see his face. “Are you all right?”

His brows furrowed. “I’m better than all right, Finch. What about you?”

I grinned, happy he mirrored the emotion. “Never better myself.”

Sleep came easily after that. Easton laid on his good side, his burned arm encompassing me as I snuggled into his furry body. My eyes closed, and slumber took me.

I woke alone. I didn’t panic; I knew if something was horribly wrong Daisy would have crashed through the door and told me.

I got up, loving the little jolts of pain that reminded me of what Easton and I had done last night.

I moved to the en suite, took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, and realized I had no clothes other than what I’d come with.

But sure enough, as I exited the bathroom, there on the bed was a duffel bag. Daisy must have arrived and tossed it there while I was in the shower.

Now dressed, I followed my nose to the smell of bacon.

Easton and Daisy were in there, no kids to be found. Daisy was cooking while Easton was hovering over what appeared to be a map.

“Good morning.” I moved over to Easton, happy when he smiled and met my chaste kiss.

“Morning.”

“When did you get up?”

He shrugged. “Few hours ago. I couldn’t sleep.”

I peered at the map. It was a vast land and on it were Eden Faire, Miller’s Cross, Fool’s Pass, Sorrow Glen, and Red Root. Behind Sorrow Glen were the Amaris Mountains where Easton was currently pointing.

“When you mentioned your sister’s name I knew I’d heard it somewhere.” He tapped the area. “There’s a connection, isn’t there?”

There was, but much of the human realm was connected…some might say, overlapped, with the fae realm.

“Yes.”

“How?”

Daisy handed me a cup of coffee. “Thanks. So there’s a lot you don’t know, and I don’t know that I have the time to break it all down, but I’ll do my best.”

I sat beside him and glanced at Daisy, who was busy making food. Funny how she was known as a vicious warrior in the fae realm, but here she babysat and cooked food.

“Many places in the human world are created by fae. Amaris Mountains is my sister’s creation. It’s why when you get near it, there are signs all over warning humans not to enter.”

Easton moved across from me and laid the map out so we could both get a good look at it.

“A few years ago we were called when a child went missing, said to have gone in that direction. We entered those mountains, never found the child, and four firefighters were severely hurt.”

Sounded like my sister. I didn’t want to think about what had happened to that kid.

“To enter those mountains is to put your fate in her hands. Heed that warning.”

He patted the map. “Where else in these lands are unsafe?”

“Unsafe? I mean fae can be anywhere. Amaris Mountains are the worst near here, and the forest is touch and go.” I pointed to the forest beside the mountains on the map.

“Eden Faire guards the forest.”

“Guards it?” He cocked his head.
