“You’re right here.” Dr. Bay motioned to a corner area. “When Finch comes up, he’ll hook you in.” She turned to me. “I will need Milo to get a blood draw tomorrow to see the effects, but he can do that at any location—he won’t have to come in here.”

“Sure, there’s one down the street from us.”

“Perfect. Okay, I’ll pop in later. This will take a few hours, unfortunately.”

Milo wasn’t saying anything; he kept looking all over the place, refusing to sit down.

“Once Finch gets here, I’m sure he’ll settle,” I said to Dr. Bay.

“Okay. If you need me, just tell one of the nurses and they’ll get a hold of me.”

“Thank you, Dr. Bay.”

I sat in one of the chairs, watching Milo poke at the toys, fiddle with the TV, and just being a nervous kid.

“Why don’t you have a seat, Bud?”

“I don’t want another nurse to think they can stab me.”

I held back my eye roll. “Do you think I’d let anyone come over and do what they wanted?”

He glanced at me, pursed his lips, then nodded. “Okay.” And he took a seat.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Finch

Exactly what I thought would happen as soon as I left Easton’s house, did…and then some.

I was able to make it home, but when I stepped out of my car the hairs on the back of my neck stood tall.

I looked around my front lawn, but no one was there. I could feel and smell it, though…part home and part hell.

I opened my front door, and it was like walking into a hostile intervention.

Amaris sneered at me from her perch on my breakfast bar. Arachnis was chilling in my recliner, wearing a grin that screamed how much he was going to enjoy what was coming my way.

Zephyr, who was half-dark and half-light like me, born of the same father and mother, was perusing my bookshelf. His moss-green hair was up in a bun, his pointy ears were filled with jewels, and he acted as if he didn’t have a care in the world.

Vesper and Blodwyn smiled and waved at me, both the closest to the door. I was surprised no one advanced the second I stepped inside, but I thought it had a lot to do with the fae leaning against the doorjamb that led to the kitchen. Daisy was giving out some serious vibes.

“You really stepped in it this time, Brother.” Zephyr wasn’t looking at me, simply reading a section of a book.

“I stepped in nothing, and you all need to leave my house.”

Arachnis tsked. “No can do. We were ordered here by Father.”

“All of you?” I quirked a brow at Vesper and Blodwyn.

Blodwyn shook her head. “Mother asked Vesper and me to come once she heard that your father was summoning those three.” She gestured at Amaris, Arachnis, and Zephyr.

While Zephyr was much like me, he leaned more toward the dark, and the day he chose to live with our father broke our mother’s heart. He never cared or if he did, I couldn’t tell.

“You know why I’m here.” Daisy was a force and even when Arachnis glanced at her, there was no doubt he felt it too.

“You’re breaking the rules, Finch. You have to answer for them.”

“How’d I break them, Amaris?”
