“Oh my God, is he okay?”

“He’s fine. He had some minor injuries. He was supposed to stay in Europe and work most of the summer, but his manager canceled all the other gigs. He’ll hopefully be home in a few days.”

“Are you coming tonight? I would love to see your pretty face.”

“I am, but I was wondering if I could bring a guest.”

“Sure. Is this a new boyfriend?”

“Sort of. His name is Jordan, and he’s wonderful.”

“I’m glad to see you’re finally dating steady again. It’s been a while. Let’s hope this guy isn’t like the last one.”

I wince at the mention of Leo. He fucked me and took off as soon as he did. It’s a fact I never revealed to Lexi or Megan. If they knew, they would hunt him down and chop his balls off with a dull knife.

“He isn’t. He’s great. You’ll see.”

“He’s more than welcome. I have to give Arabella lunch. I’ll talk to you tonight. Love you.”

“Love you too, Lexi.”

After I hang up with her, I text Jordan.

Thank you for the beautiful flowers. Does your admission have anything to do with this morning?

My admission has everything to do with you. You’re like The Police song.

You’re wrapped around my finger? I’m going to have to use that to my advantage this weekend.

Just this weekend? I’d crawl through glass to get to you.

My stomach has butterflies. Jordan is in love, and so am I. It’s not like puppy love like with Ricky. I thought I would marry him and live in my hometown for the rest of my life. My love for Jordan is red hot, and it makes me restless. His scent turns me on. Just thinking about him makes me wet like I am now. I’ve got it just as bad as he does.

I prefer you with intact hands and knees, but I understand what you mean. I feel the same way. I love you, Jordan.

I love you, too.

I can’t wait for tonight, and I squirm in my seat, waiting for the end of the day. I don’t even bother to take lunch yet though Angie has tamales that her grandmother made. At five, I’m a ball of energy, and I hope that I can make it through dinner without pulling Jordan into the bathroom to give me a quickie.

I say my goodbyes to my office mates and hope that the subway isn’t too crowded as it usually is at rush hour. To my surprise, Albert is waiting at the curb with the Mercedes.

“Miss Stanford.”

“Emma, Please.”

“Emma, Mr. Grayson wanted me to take you to your sister’s.”

“I appreciate that. It beats the subway any day.”

He opens the door, and I slip inside the cool interior. I like the Mercedes better than the limo. It gives me a chance to question Albert. As we pull out into rush hour traffic, I ask him more about Jordan.

“How is he doing?”

“Who? Jordan?”

“Yes. Is he better?”

“He seems to be. This past week has been bad for him.”
