A minute later, the phone rings. I’m glad that he called because I want to hear his voice.
“Baby girl, I’m glad you’re alright. My manager, Barry, got the gig in Europe. I’m leaving tomorrow night. My first stop is some clubs in the UK; then it’s onto Spain, Germany, and France. I might also have a few gigs in Italy but nothing concrete. I will be gone until the start of August.”
My heart tugs because I love Nathaniel, and I’m going to miss him desperately.
“I don’t know what to say. I thought we would have some more time before you left,” I sniffle.
“Emma, don’t get all soft on me. I’m going to miss you too. We can talk every day. I’m not going to be gone forever.”
“I know, but I wanted to say goodbye in person, at least.”
“We were both stupid; at least I was. I’m sorry I was such an ass.”
“Nate, I just want you to live to your potential. I don’t want you to be so self-destructive.”
“I’m trying baby girl. I know you want what’s best for me. It’s bad enough I’m probably going to have to shave my head. I won’t have anyone to do my hair.”
“Geez, Nate! I did it enough that you should know how by now.”
“I’ll figure it out, or maybe I’ll just let it grow until it’s a rocker mess.”
“I won’t recognize you when you get back.”
“Soo, tell me about Mr. Millionaire. Did he finally nail you?”
“You make it sound so dirty.”
“Dirty sex is great. So did he?”
“Yes.”
“That’s it? No details?”
“I don’t kiss and tell.”
“The hell you don’t. I’ve been waiting three years to hear some shit about your sex life. Now you’re going to hold out on me?”
“He was good, very good.”
“That’s it? Just good?”

“Considering the two idiots I slept with before him, yes.”
