“Since there’s no professional team here, there’s a chance we can get it here. I’ve made some calls, and my lawyers have made some inquiries with the league. Our ace the hole,” he said, looking at me, “is Greer. They’ll entertain a proposal if we can get him on board.”

I curled my lips in to keep from responding, but the laugh that escaped my chest refused to be held in. Austin looked at me with amusement all over his face.

“What’s so funny?” His mood was simmering as Carter visibly relaxed.

I looked up into his green eyes and smiled. “I just told Charlie I wanted to turn over more control to him so I could spend time with you. And now Carter wants to start a fucking NHL franchise here in Portland.”

Austin’s brows drew in as he studied me. “Do you think that’s a bad idea?”

I shook my head. “No, but I?—”

Carter cut me off. “Why don’t I take you both to dinner, and we can talk about it. Like family. And you can tell me about Costa Rica.”

I watched my husband’s mood level out in front of me. I could see the weight lifting from his shoulders. Carter was Austin’s hero, and I knew not speaking to him had eaten away at him. Even with that, he still put me first. “What do you want to do?” he asked me.

I looked at my best friend, and then at my husband, knowing there was only one right answer. “I suppose we’ll let him buy dinner, and give him a chance to explain.”

We were starting a new life together, and I looking forward to every minute with him.

EPILOGUE

AUSTIN

“Are we really going to do this?”

Greer looked at me like I’d lost my mind. “You are the one who started this whole thing, sweetheart. It’s a little too late to back out now.”

I leaned closer and grinned at him. “But you want it too, right? You didn’t just agree to this for me.”

He stared into my eyes with his knowing gaze and took my hand as we waited for our names to be called. “Austin, my love. We’re going into that room and jacking each other off into that nice little sterile cup. And while we’re doing it, I’m going to pretend it’s your mouth.”

My face heated as my cock thickened. “I just wish I could suck you off, then spit it into the cup.”

Greer’s face lit with humor as he curled in his lips to keep from laughing out loud in the middle of the waiting room. I never imagined I’d love making him smile with my brand of dirty talk. But every time I got to look at him and take in the tiny laugh lines around his expressive eyes, I fell a little more in love with him.

And that’s why we were doing this.

“As titillating as that sounds, it would compromise the specimen and the DNA. This go-round is all about me.”

“What if we end up with more than one?” The thought of having more than one child at a time made me really happy.

Before he could answer, a nurse appeared in the doorway of the IVF clinic we’d chosen. “Greer? We’re ready for you.”

We stood and approached the smiling lady. “Good morning. How are you both this morning?”

“Excited,” I replied, making Greer chuckle. We followed her down the hall to a room equipped with an exam table, two recliners, and a small flatscreen TV attached to the wall.

“Do most men bring a partner?” I asked, looking at the stack of suggestive material with an accompanying collection of DVDs. We wouldn’t need it.

“Some do. We have some visual stimulation should someone need it. But feel free to help the process along.” She opened the cabinet and retrieved the sterile cup with the paper tape over the top, then a blue pee pad to soak up any misguided fluids. We both watched, fascinated, as she unfolded the pad and placed it on the chair.

“Let’s go over a few things to make sure I have all the information.”

“Yes, okay.” Greer smiled at me, relaxed and calm, while my heart raced.

She looked down at the tablet she’d been carrying and reviewed the information. “According to the paperwork, Mr. Greer Rowan will provide the specimen for this insemination. Correct?”

He nodded. “Yes, that’s correct.”
