“You’re acting weird, Patrick. What’s wrong with you? Are you overthinking telling your story? Because you don’t have to. No one will even know but me.”

I fidgeted. “Yeah, maybe.”

Not even a little bit.

“It’s okay,” he said, “just do what you feel is right.”

I nodded. “I will. Now go play. Your fans await.”

If he only knew what was coming.

When the first set was off and the crowd was singing along, I put my plan into action. I’d been counting down the time to this night since we returned from Bowen Island.

Cole and Adam were in their element when I slipped away to check on my preparations. In the green room on the other side of the stage, I visited our special guests for the evening.

Claire and William, along with my parents, were seated, watching the show and catching up with one another.

“Everybody good? Need anything?”

Claire looked up at me. “You look so handsome, sweetheart.”

“Thanks, Claire.” I kissed her cheek, then dropped one onto my mother’s cheek.

“Thanks for being here, Mom.”

“There’s no place we’d rather be.”

I nodded, then headed out to check on the next group down the hall.

Opening the door, Aidan and Jesse kept an eye on things so I could get ready.

“Everything’s good, man. Everyone’s here.” Jesse waved his arm at everyone.

I took a breath and then tried to calm down. “Good. When Adam and Liam finish ‘Photograph’, Cole’s going out to do ‘Losing My Religion.’ Be ready then.”

“Got it,” Jesse said. “We won’t screw up. We’re SEALs.”

I laughed, then left to return to my side of the stage.

An hour later, it was showtime. Liam and Adam sang while Cole came to me for more electrolytes.

“Here ya go, babe. You guys are killing it out there.”

My boyfriend beamed at me. “The crowd is so pumped. There’s an energy out there tonight.”

I looked at the man I loved more than life itself and nodded. “Yeah, I feel it. It's going to be a special night.”

I kissed him quickly as Adam and Liam wrapped up their song.

I handed Cole his guitar, and the roadie headed out onto the stage with his stool.

“Let’s have another round of applause for Mr. Liam Perry!” Cole said, then led into Losing My Religion.

It was showtime. And I couldn’t wait.

EPILOGUE - COLE

The crowd was electric tonight. Some shows just went off better than others, and this was one of them. They applauded and sang along. It was unreal to hear so many people sing our songs back to us. It was all we dreamed about when we were kids, writing all those terrible songs.
