Chapter 4

Daniel leaned back in his wheelchair and just stared at Fiona. He had caught her staring at him and now she was trying to pretend as though she was not looking at him. He did not know what to think of her yet. She didn’t bother trying to convince him to eat when he refused, and she was sitting in his living room. Daniel wheeled himself into the living room and stopped right in front of Fiona. She almost jumped out of her skin when she turned and saw him right in front of her.

“Don’t,” he said to her when she was about to stand up.

“Okay.” She shifted and made herself comfortable. “What can I do for you, your highness?” she asked him.

“What are you doing right now?”

“What do you mean?”

“Why are you just sitting there like that?”

“You did not want to eat. So I am sitting here where I can see you.”

“Yes, I could see you watching me.”

Fiona raised her eyebrows. “I was not watching you. I mean that I am staying close just in case you need me for something,” she said.

“Get me some grapes and a glass of water,” he said to her.

“Yes sir,” she said as she sprang up to her feet. She went off to the kitchen and returned moments later with grapes and a glass of water. Daniel took the plate of grapes from her.

“I need ice in my water,” Daniel said to her. Fiona nodded. She turned on her heel and went to the kitchen. She returned moments later with ice in the water. She put the glass down on the table.

“Do you need anything else, your highness?” she asked.

“Sit down.” He gestured towards the sofa. Fiona sat down on the sofa in front of him. Daniel did not say anything for a little while. He just ate his grapes. “Where did you meet Lady Agaiby?” he asked her.

“She came to America,” Fiona replied. “Did she not tell you about her searching for a care assistant for you from America?” she asked.

“How much did she promise you?” Daniel ignored her question. She had not told him that she was going to bring an American. He knew that she had been so invested in finding someone to look after him but he had not known how far she was willing to go.

“Enough.” Fiona smiled. “The most important thing is that you are looked after.”

Daniel narrowed his gaze at her. “How much will it cost for you to go away?” he asked her.

“I am not going to go away,” she said.

“$10,000?” he asked. Fiona shook her head. “$20,000?”

“I will not agree to any amount. Did you pay your last caregivers to leave?”

“They had the good sense to leave.”

“I see.” Fiona cleared her throat. “Well, I will not be leaving any time soon. I am here to do a job.”

“Very well,” he replied. He picked up the glass of water and drank some water. “Take me to the bathroom.”

“Excuse me?” Fiona’s hazel eyes flew wide open.

“You said that you were to assist me, so assist me.” Daniel put the glass down on the table.

“Sure.” She sprang up to her feet. She walked around him and stood behind him. She grabbed the wheelchair handles.

“You need to take the brakes off first,” he said to her.

“Oh.” Fiona used her foot to lift up the brakes of his wheelchair. She grabbed the wheelchair handles. “Which way shall we go?” she asked him.
