Chapter 19

Lady Agaiby invited Daniel to have dinner with her. He knew that it was not an ordinary dinner. She wanted to talk about what had happened earlier that day. The queen had probably gone to speak with Lady Agaiby and ask her to fire Fiona.

“Hello my love,” Lady Agaiby greeted Daniel as he entered the dining room.

“Good evening,” he said. Daniel went to join his grandmother at the dinner table.

“How are you today?”

“It could be better.”

“What is the matter?”

Daniel sighed. He had found out that his accident was orchestrated by someone and his mother had slapped Fiona twice. Everything was wrong. “I am sure you know and that is why you called me here,” he said. The maids started serving them their dinner.

Lady Agaiby smiled. “Yes, I spoke to your mother,” she said.

“Hmm.” Daniel picked up his fork.

“I never expected Fiona to try and seduce you but then again every woman seems to be attracted to you.”

“Seduce?” Daniel chuckled a little. “She knows nothing about seduction.”

Lady Agaiby raised her eyebrows. “So you have not slept with her?” she asked.

“No, I have not.” He wanted to but he held himself back because he respected her and cared for her.

“So what is the nature of your relationship?” Lady Agaiby asked him.

“Bringing her to care for me is the best thing you’ve ever done for me.”

“Wow.” Lady Agaiby was quite surprised. “You actually care for her?”

“I do. She is a special girl. She encouraged me to go to cabinet meetings and physiotherapy. She makes me feel as though everything is going to be okay. I don’t feel as depressed as I used to,” said Daniel. Lady Agaiby stared at him wide-eyed.

“She was the reason for you attending the cabinet meetings?” she asked. Daniel nodded. “Dr. Ansari informed me of your progress but I never thought it was because of Fiona,” she added.

“She has a refreshing perspective on life.” Daniel sighed. He wasn’t one to share his feelings but it was somehow easy when it came to Fiona. He knew that if Lady Agaiby knew how important she was to him then she would not fire Fiona. His grandmother always wanted the best for him.

“I am extremely shocked. I never thought I would live to see you fall for a woman.”

“Why?” Daniel raised an eyebrow.

“You were always changing women every other week.” She smiled. “I will speak to your mother.”

“She did not like Fiona from the start. She never gave her a chance, so it might not be easy to get her to leave Fiona alone,” said Daniel.

“I agree but then I will have to try.”

It was Fiona’s day off and she was going to spend it with Daniel anyway but then a maid from Lady Agaiby’s quarters came and told her that Lady Agaiby wanted to speak with her. Fiona wore a long grey dress and sandals. She tied her hair up. She wanted to look presentable when she spoke with Daniel’s grandmother. She knew that she was calling her over to her quarters because she wanted to talk about her relationship with Daniel. It had to be about that since the queen had caught Daniel in her room the day before.

Fiona followed one of Lady Agaiby’s maids through the glass doors. Lady Agaiby was sitting at the table outside on the patio. Fiona felt nervous because she did not know how Lady Agaiby was going to react. She really did not want to lose her job.

“Good morning, Lady Agaiby,” Fiona greeted her.

“Hello dear, please have a seat,” she replied. Fiona nodded and did as told. “Bring us some tea,” Lady Agaiby said to the maid that had escorted Fiona. The maid nodded and quickly left.
