“She is in her room. Shall I call her down for you?”

“No, take me to her room.”

“Yes sir.”

Joseph followed the maid upstairs. He had been to Sheikh Solomon’s house many times but he had never been upstairs. The maid looked back at him and smiled. Then she looked forward. Joseph shook his head. Even though she knew that he was betrothed to Olivia, she was still trying to get his attention.

They finally came to a halt in front of a white door with a golden knob. The maid knocked on the door. “I’ll take it from here,” he said to her. She nodded before she walked off.

“Come in!” Olivia shouted. Joseph turned the golden knob and then walked in. Olivia was sitting in tiny shorts and a T-shirt on her bed. She turned her head and gasped when she saw him. “Joseph!” she breathed.

“Hi,” he said softly. Olivia put her laptop on her nightstand and sat up. Joseph sat on the bed next to her.

“This is a surprise,” she said with a smile.

“I wanted to see you.”

Olivia took his face into her hands and searched his eyes. “What is the matter?” she asked.

“Nothing,” he replied.

“No, there is something definitely going on with you,” she said. Joseph raised an eyebrow. She was able to tell there was something wrong. No one else could because he was so good at putting on a poker face.

“A woman from my past,” he said.

“Okay, what about her?”

“If I tell you, promise me that you will not leave me.”

Olivia jerked her head backwards a little. “Surely, it is not that bad,” she said.

“I don’t know how you will take it.” He sighed.

Olivia leaned forward and pressed a small kiss against his lips. “You can tell me anything,” she said to him.

“I was in a relationship with a woman named Hudah a few years ago.”

“Okay, go on.”

“I just found out that she has a son and I might be the father.”

Olivia raised her eyebrows. “Whoa,” she said. She looked so shocked. There was silence for a moment. Joseph felt nervous. He wondered what she was thinking. “You might be or you are definitely the father?” she asked him.

“Might. We went for a DNA test today,” he said to her. She nodded quietly. “I’m sorry,” he added. Those were the only words that came to mind. He did not know what to say or do.

Olivia leaned towards him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Don’t apologize to me,” she said gently. “This is something that happened before we knew each other.”

Joseph looked at her and searched her eyes. He had not expected such a warm reaction from her. “I did not expect you to react this way,” he said.

She smiled.

“You thought I’d get mad?” she asked.

“Honestly, I did not know what to expect.”

She kissed his forehead and then his cheek. “Don’t ever feel like you can’t tell me anything. No matter what it is, you must tell me,” she said.

He cleared his throat. “There is one more thing,” he said.
