Chapter 7

Joseph was in his home office looking over some paperwork later that day. Thoughts of Olivia kept entering his mind. She was just so intriguing to him. She had tried to ward him off but he was not going to allow her to do so. Whenever he wanted something, he would do whatever it took to get it. He did not take no for answer.

“Joseph!” a voice sounded from the hallway. Joseph immediately knew whose voice it was. He leaned back in his white leather chair and looked at the door. His mother walked in moments later.

“Hello, Mother,” he replied.

She smiled and approached him. She kissed him on both cheeks.

“How are you?” she asked as she sat down opposite him. She sat up straight and clasped her hands together. She was so poised and so regal. She wore a white dress and elegant pearls. She had olive skin color.

“I am well,” Joseph replied.

“I am curious.”

“About what?” Joseph knew exactly what his mother was curious about.

“Rania or Marina?” his mother asked.

Joseph grunted.

“We will be meeting with their family soon. You might have to wait until then.” Joseph was not sure it was his place to tell his mother about Olivia. He wanted her to hear from Sheikh Solomon that he had an illegitimate daughter.

“You have not made a decision?” she asked.

“Something like that.”

“That is unlike you.” His mother looked surprised. “What is wrong with the girls?” she asked.

“Nothing. I guess I have not spent much time with them to get to know them.” Joseph immediately frowned. It was as if he was regurgitating Olivia’s words.

His mother also looked shocked to hear his words.

“What else do you need to know? They’re both from a good family. They are beautiful and well-educated,” she said to him.

Joseph did not agree. To him, they were average-looking.

“Shall we have dinner?” he asked.

“Why are you changing the subject?”

“I am just hungry.” Joseph smiled. His mother was invested in that marriage. She really wanted him to marry either Rania or Marina. Therefore, she was going to keep talking about it. So Joseph thought it best to change the subject. He wanted to wait until she found out about Olivia’s existence before he told her that he wanted to marry Olivia.

“Sheikh Boutros, thank you for coming.” Sheikh Solomon greeted him with a smile. He shook Joseph’s hand. Joseph had decided to go to Sheikh Solomon’s house the following evening. He needed to talk to him. Olivia had stood him up. She had not gone to his house for dinner. No woman had ever turned him down for anything.

“I trust that you have been well,” Joseph said to Sheikh Solomon.

“I have. Please have a seat.”

The two men sat down in the drawing room. A maid served them with tea and cakes. Joseph picked up his cup of tea and took a sip.

“My mother dropped by my house last night,” Joseph said to Sheikh Solomon. “I have not told her about Olivia’s existence yet. I feel that it should come from yourself.”

“It is going to be tough talking about it. Having an illegitimate child is never a good look, especially for a sheikh,” said Sheikh Solomon.

“Yes, it will be tough. It must already be tough on your family.”
