“Reid, please,” I begged.

Against me, he made an approving sound before he finally stopped teasing and started to work my clit relentlessly, but just a tad too slow to get me there as quickly as my body was craving.

His hand inched up my thigh until I felt his fingers against me, just circling, teasing.

When they started to press, to penetrate, I felt myself start to tense.

But no.

No, I wanted this.

I was safe with him.

There was nothing I needed to worry about.

Taking a deep breath, I relaxed into the sensation. Sensing it, one of his fingers started to press further inside of me. When all he got was a little whimper, a second finger joined, just a fullness there for a moment, waiting to see if I changed my mind.

When I didn’t, he started to stroke, creating friction that pushed me more quickly toward that edge.

By the time his fingers crooked and started to stroke against my top wall, I was already teetering there.

And he just shoved me over, leaving me crying out, my body trembling as the orgasm overtook me.

He kissed back down my thighs as I came back down, before standing back up, giving me a self-satisfied smile that he’d totally earned.

All of the relief at being able to have this with him without the ugly thoughts creeping in had a smile tugging at my lips until it stretched hard enough to hurt.

Riff returned the smile, then leaned down to give me a quick kiss.

It felt like everything was starting to fall into place.

I had no idea at the time that Riff was keeping secrets from me.

Ones that would end up allowing me to make a decision that would screw everything up again.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Riff

I slept that night in the bed beside her, dreaming of her—the taste of her, the feel of her, the sounds of her, making me wake up so hard it hurt, the first tendrils of daylight just starting to streak across the sky.

I lay there, taking slow, deep breaths, trying to bring some calm into my system.

“Did you have a nightmare?” Vienna asked, voice sleepy, making me realize I must have jerked awake, stirring her as well.

“No, darlin’,” I said, taking another deep breath, hoping the room was still dark enough to hide my problem. “I’m fine. Go back to sleep.”

Maybe that was her plan.

But she snuggled close to me, her head going on my chest, and her leg starting to slide over my midsection. Which was exactly where I needed her not to be.

Reflexively, I reached down to push her leg, making her body tighten.

“What’s the matter?” she asked, her sweet voice sounding wounded, making me feel like an asshole.

“Nothing you need to worry about,” I told her, reaching for the covers that had fallen off of me in my sleep, thanks to the fact that Vienna was a complete and utter blanket hog, despite having no fewer than five of her own already.

“What?” she asked, but I guess the room was just bright enough for her to finally understand. “Oh.”
