Chad tangled his fingers in my hair when I leaned down and kissed me as he had done earlier. He also got another erection.

“I could take you right here, woman,” he breathed against my face. “My windows are tinted, you know? Just crawl inside and straddle me.”

“It’s tempting.”

“But you won’t do it because it’s too risky.”

“It is too risky. With my luck, my next patient would park next to you and see what we were doing. Your windows aren’t that dark.”

“Next on my to-do list is to get them tinted as dark as legally possible. One of these days, I’m going to fuck you in my car.”

“Darken those windows and it’s a deal.”

After watching Chad pull out of the parking lot, I returned to the dental office where I’d been employed for nine months. I loved my job and all my fellow employees. I was fortunate to find such a fantastic group of people to work with.

“You and Mr. Nolan are so cute, formally addressing each other in front of everyone,” Jacinda said. She was the receptionist and my favorite person in the office.

“It’s just a fun little game that we enjoy playing.”

“I’ll never forget when he saw you the first time. You entered the lobby, called his name, and his jaw hit the floor. The man was instantly smitten with you.”

“By the time I finished cleaning his teeth, I was smitten with him too.”

Jacinda held out her hand for mine. “Let me see your engagement ring.” She looked it over as she’d done several times before. “It is so gorgeous. That diamond is blinding in the light.” She partially covered her eyes, playing the part and making me giggle.

“It’s pretty big.”

“There’s no telling what Chad paid for it, but you’re worth it.”

“Aw, I appreciate you saying that.”

“It’s true.”

“I’ll tell you something ironic about this ring. It’s the only yellow gold jewelry that I have. All my other pieces are white gold or silver because that’s what I prefer.”

“I didn’t realize that.”

I shrugged. “It’s a skin tone thing for me.”

“I get it. But did Chad know your preference before he bought your ring?”

“No, we never talked about that particular subject. Everything but it, I believe. It’s okay, though. I’ve changed my mind about yellow gold.”

“You seem really happy, Riley. Like blissfully happy.”

“I am. I was once before, but that relationship didn’t last.”

“It wasn’t meant to be. This one that you have with your tall, dark, and handsome Prince Charming is, though. I can tell.”

“I pray you’re right. I can’t take another broken heart.”

“If everything goes smoothly with my patient schedule tomorrow, then I’ll be able to leave Fort Worth at two o’clock and start heading your way,” I told my sister, Rachel, and best friend, Macie. We were on a three-way call.

“As soon as you get to Momma and Daddy’s, let me know,” Rachel said.

“Same here,” Macie added. Then she commented about Chad letting me spend the weekend with my family and her. She couldn’t believe it.

“It’s not a matter of him letting me. I can come there any time and stay for as long as I want. I just so happen to like spending most of my time with Chad because he’s pretty fabulous.”
