“Why would we starve you when we need you?” Rage counters. “Doesn’t seem like a smart idea.”

Hawk, Beast, and Ghost all choke on their drinks, laughing. “He’s got you there Doc, and he ain’t got no degree. Have you, Rage?” Beast laughs.

“No,” Rage answers sharply.

I clear my throat. “Do you have a family?” I ask the doctor.

“Why? What are you going to do to? Kidnap them, too?” he asks, terrified.

“So, you do have a family?” I press.

He shakes his head no. “No. Have you tried dating when you work in the ICU? It’s not exactly sociable hours,” he huffs.

I smile. “Well, maybe one day, there will be someone special. I want you to know that even though you are here against your will, I am eternally grateful for you helping my father. This act of kindness won’t go unnoticed,” I tell him. I reach for my drink and take a sip before placing my glass back down. I look at the doctor. “But my gratitude comes with one condition, that when we no longer require your services, then you shall return to your life. We never existed; this house, my father, none of it happened. Do I make myself clear?” I ask, keeping my eyes pinned on him. My face is set to stone as I repeat my father’s words over in my mind.

You act the part, you play the part. Show no emotion. No weakness.

The doctor nods. “Of course,” he says, his voice breaking slightly.

“Good. If your colleagues should ask, you simply say some drug gang stole the ambulance, and you were just trying to be a hero,” I tell him. He nods, and it’s then that I realise the entire table has gone completely silent and everyone is staring at me. My cheeks heat and I look down at my plate.

“Like father, like fucking daughter,” Ghost tuts, shaking his head.

“I may have just become very attracted to you,” Star breathes.

I snort back my laughter as Beast leans in. “When we go to bed,” he whispers in my ear, “I want you to threaten me like that.” He turns toward me and nips my ear.

“Hell brother, if she talks like that, I may take her to bed!” Spider jokes. Beast growls and glares at him. “Shit, too soon?” He winces, holding up his hands in surrender.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

BELLE

2 weeks have passed, and Dad still hasn’t woken up. I sit by his side each day, I talk to him, brush his hair, and wipe his face. Beast sits with me some of the time, although there has been a lot of club meetings and errands to run. I think everyone is getting fed up with being here now. It’s not too bad for a few nights, because it’s almost like a family getaway. But now they are bored and miss their freedom.

“He still not awake?” Star asks, coming into the room. I sigh and shake my head.

“No, the doctor has lowered all his medication now. He should be coming around, but he’s not. It’s not looking good,” I say, my voice cracking slightly. As much as the doctor had warned me that this could be one of the outcomes, the worst apart from death, I haven’t allowed myself to think about it. If I do, I will lose faith that he will wake again.

“Hey Bobby, you better wake your ass up. Your baby girl is screwing a biker. Bareback, too!” Star yells loudly.

“Star!” I laugh, chastising her.

She shrugs. “What? They say they can hear what you say, right? I’m telling you that if Ghost was ever in this situation, it wouldn’t be his favourite music or gentle conversations that would wake him up. It would be him hearing that I’ve slept with someone else or that someone is hurting his boy,” she points out.

I nod. “You’ve got a fair point there,” I agree. “Dad, wake up. I’m pregnant,” I yell, testing it.

“You’re what?!” Beast asks from behind us.

I spin around and see Beast stood in the doorway, his face set to stone. “I’m not,” I confirm. “Well, I don’t think I am,” I elaborate.

“Hold up a moment, Mr. Fertiliser. Why are you looking so pissed? Especially when you’ve literally used her as your cum bucket,” Star interjects.

Beast’s face softens. “Not that it’s any of your business, but of course I want her pregnant with my kid,” he states to Star while he crosses the room to me. Bending down, he places a gentle kiss on my lips. “How’s he doing?” he asks me.

I’m about to answer, but Star interrupts. “Don’t want it being my business, then learn how to have sex quietly. When you guys do have a kid, I feel like I will be able to tell because I was there at conception, from where you guys are that loud.”

I cover my face. “Oh god, are we really that bad?” I ask.
