Her cheeks heat a little and she rolls her eyes. “Yes, I’m a little sore, but I will be okay.”

I’m about to say something, but I’m cut off when my phone rings again. Belle reaches over, picks it up, and hands it to me. I sigh and answer it. “Yeah?”

“About fucking time!” Ghost snaps down the line. “Firstly, is she with you?” he asks.

“Yeah, she’s here,” I reply.

“Good, because the GPS tracker for my truck is a quarter of a mile from yours.” He sighs with relief. He can be an asshole, but he cares really.

“Yeah, it’s on my road, in the ditch. The bad weather last night skidded it off the road,” I explain.

“Fuck. She good? Damage to the truck?” he asks.

“She’s fine, and I don’t know about the truck. I will go and take a look when I get out of bed,” I answer.

Ghost grunts. “Fine. I will hit up a replacement. I take it you told her everything?” he asks.

“Yeah,” I answer, watching Belle get up from the bed completely naked, her beautiful big round ass tempting me. She looks over her shoulder and smiles, shaking her head before walking into the bathroom.

“And there goes another one of us.” He sighs. “Listen, Cash thinks he has a location on Charlie. We are going to head over there later tonight. You want her to stay at the club while we check it out?” he asks. “Or at ours? Star is having Maggie, Josie, and Dixie round,” he states.

“Not Queenie?” I counter.

“Nah, she is still a bit salty with her for grassing them in about their girls’ night.” He laughs.

“Okay. I will drop her off at yours,” I state.

“Good.” I hear him walk around and close a door. “Please tell me you didn’t tell her about the threat?” he asks.

“Of course I fucking didn’t. Jesus. She just knows it’s dangerous, and about her father being in hospital That’s all,” I state. I’m not stupid. If she knew everything, she wouldn’t be able to sleep at night, fearing for her own life.

“Good, fuck. If Bobby was awake, he would be losing his shit right now. I don’t know why Charlie has this obsession with her. It’s fucked up, right?” Ghost asks.

“Yeah Pres, it ain’t right. I get that she’s next in line, but fuck, that ain’t her. Bobby knows, everyone knows that, and unless he appoints someone else, the business dies with him. It would make more sense to go after Bobby’s men,” I point out.

“I hear you. I can’t help but feel like we are just sitting ducks waiting for fuck, I don’t know what. They haven’t been anywhere near Bobby since he’s been in hospital.” He sighs.

“Do you think that they think he’s dead?” I query.

Ghost grunts. “That would be a pretty dumb thing to assume.”

I pull the phone away from my ear to make sure Belle isn’t coming back. “But they gave him that drug to kill him. They did their job, and then they left. Why would they question it?”

“If that is the case, then their attention will be solely on Belle, and on this club that protects her. Fuck,” Ghost snaps. “Change of plan. We ain’t following the lead.”

He’s not wrong. This is dangerous. We are sitting ducks, and we don’t know who this Charlie is. He could have been watching us for a while now and we wouldn’t be any the wiser.

“Safe house?” I ask, although I already know the answer.

“Pack up and get your asses there as soon as you can. I will hire a truck and meet you there,” he says before disconnecting.

I rub my face and sigh. This is why I didn’t want to answer my phone, knowing reality would destroy our bubble. I get off the bed and start getting dressed, no time for a shower. Well, more to the point, I know if I shower with her now, we ain’t going anywhere for at least an hour. I open the wardrobe, grab my large duffle bag, and begin to stuff some clothes in it.

Belle comes out of the bathroom, her hair dripping wet, and her wet body barley covered with a towel. She frowns. “What’s going on?” she asks.

“We’ve got to go to the safe house. Some things have come to light, and until we can know it’s safe, we need to stay there for a while,” I state while packing. I look up and see her face is full of worry. I stop what I’m doing and go to her, wrapping my arms around her. She hugs me back, looking up at me with those rich hazel eyes. “Don’t worry, it will all work out. It’s just a safety precaution. That’s all,” I say, trying to reassure her.

She nods. “Okay, but all my stuff is at Ghost’s place,” she says, realising.
