I hit the hammer on his fingers. He screams, shifting in the chair. I take his other wrist and hit the hammer on it again. His muffled screams fill the room. I ungag him.

“How many of you are here?”

“Please stop. I swear, I’ll tell you everything,” he cries.

I set the hammer back on the table and rest on the edge, staring at him.

“Start talking.”

Daniel walks to lock the door and rests on the frame.

“I work for Chito. He wants to take over the business and have the city with Aldo. They are half-brothers and are working together.”

My eyes narrow on him as I stare at him in disbelief. He takes a few seconds, struggling to catch his breath as he pants.

“He had us work for you to gain your trust and let him know more information about you. And the business. Our final task is to kill you.”

“Who killed my father?”

Tarik locks eyes with me, his face red. He lets a moment pass before he responds.

“I did.”

I move closer to him and punch him again. Once, twice, thrice, until I lose count and Daniel is holding me back.

“Stop stronzo (asshole)! You’ll kill him before we get the names.”

My fist is stained with blood. Mine and his, as my knuckles burst from the punches. “Tell me their names.”

His head dangles in the air, covered with blood and a broken nose.

“Mattia… Giorgio…” He coughs out blood, and his head falls to face downward. I can hear his slow ragged breaths. Blood is streaming down his face when he raises his head again. “Armani and Enzo,” he adds.

“Where the fuck did they take Adriana?”

His eyelids flutter as he tries to keep his head straight. I punch his face again to fucking wake him up. He grunts, spewing more blood.

“Aldo has a warehouse where he keeps his prisoners.”

“Where?”

“South Bronx.”

Daniel pulls the trigger at the back of Tarik’s head and blows his brain.

Not so soft after all.

“Kill all of them!”

Chapter thirty

Adriana

My hands are tied to a rope behind me, with a blindfold covering my eyes. Aldo locked me in the spare room in his house last night.

Our conversation hadn’t gone as he expected. I had angrily slapped him in the face after he kept his hands on me, sliding up my jeans. I’m lucky he didn’t have his men kill me already.

Someone holds my hand as I walk blindly to wherever the hell they are taking me.
