He pulls away, keeping his hands on my shoulders. “My daughter, you have done well.”

I look around the small platform. “What is this place?”

He smiles. “It’s my resting space. Primordial beings never really die. We just take a few millennia to recuperate.”

“Am I dead?”

“No. You have a long life to live.”

“I’m confused,” I admit.

“That’s understandable. You have much to learn before you will understand. There’s no rush. Take time to enjoy the life you’ve been given.”

“What about the crystal?”

“When you return, it will be waiting for you. Return it to the case and protect it. There will be others after its power.”

“Did I stop time and bring myself here?”

He smiles proudly. “The crystal brought you here, and yes, you stopped time. You have more power than you know. Trust Farbauti. He will protect you and the stone.” He begins moving backward. “I must go. My energy is growing weak.”

“Thank you.” I reach forward, giving him one last squeeze. A feeling of overwhelming love fills me, head to toe.

“I love you, my darling.” He disappears in front of me, fading into a wisp of snowflakes. Something hard falls to my hand. Looking down, I realize the tears I’ve cried have frozen and turned into tear-shaped ice.

“Thank you,” I whisper to the wind.

Instinctively, I turn away from the cliff and close my eyes. I envision the crystal, and the pulse immediately calls to me. “Take me to the stone,” I whisper.

My eyes open to the inside of the helicopter and the crystal still contained in the clear box. Everything around me is still frozen in time.

Grabbing the box, I carry it back inside the building and move in front of Ty. With the crystal in my hands, I reach up, touching his lips with mine. “Take us home,” I whisper. In an instant, we’re transported to his apartment in Oslo.

CHAPTER 8

Jack

Ty’s eyes blink as he stares at me in complete confusion. “Piper?” He looks around the room. “We’re in my apartment? How?”

“I saw Brimir.”

He takes a few steps backward. “Brimir?”

“I stopped time, and the crystal took me to see him. He said I’d understand one day.”

Ty’s eyes flash to the crystal. “Is that it?”

“Yes.” I set it on a table next to me. “Brimir said to trust you and that you’d keep it safe.”

He moves closer to the box. “It’s even more beautiful than I could’ve imagined. The replicas are nothing like the real thing.” He turns back toward me. “Brimir’s right. I will protect it with my life.”

I step toward him. “He also said you’d protect me.”

“He wasn’t wrong. I will protect both of you with my life,” he repeats his words from earlier.

I close the gap between us, wrapping my arms around his shoulders. My mouth is on his instantly, taking control of the ice giant. He matches my energy as our tongues collide, sending waves of pleasure down my body. Long arms wrap behind me and lower to my ass. He squeezes gently, bringing an embarrassingly deep sigh from me. “I don’t know how you brought us back here, but you’re amazing.”

“I know,” I answer with a smirk, pushing him against the wall. “I am pretty amazing.”
