Her face lit up when she saw me. “You made it.”

“As if I’d miss a chance to see you off.” I pulled her into my arms, knowing she wouldn’t be the one to hug me.

Blythe was committed to showing everyone she was okay. I had no doubt it was true, but she was trading everything she knew for an uncertain future.

This would be her second time doing so in a short amount of time.

Brielle joined us and leaned in so only we could hear. “If you don’t want to go through with it, we can sneak you away. We’ll just tell Alpha Declan you ran.”

I snorted.

We both knew that male would hunt her down.

In the two weeks since the battle, he’d contacted Alpha Wynn every other day to check on Blythe. He even requested to speak to her on a few occasions.

“Thanks for the offer, but I think I’ll be fine,” Blythe said.

We heard wheels on gravel and turned to the gate. A large black truck pulled up, but Alpha Declan climbed out of the driver’s seat instead of the Enforcers we’d expected.

Blythe stiffened.

“Did he come alone?” I asked, craning my neck to peer through the windshield.

“Looks that way,” Brielle said tightly.

The two Alphas greeted each other, and then Alpha Declan said hello to the males with Alpha Wynn before walking up to Blythe, his gray eyes focused on her.

“I told you not to test me,” he said softly.

Blythe narrowed her eyes at him. “Whatever. It’s your time you’re wasting, not mine.”

“You’ll never be a waste of time,” he replied.

Okay. Apparently, their phone calls were more interesting than she let on.

Brielle and I locked eyes, and she raised a brow, just as lost as I was.

“Ladies,” Alpha Declan said, taking Blythe’s bags as she pointedly ignored him.

She said her goodbyes, promising to visit at the end of the month.

Instead of being upset with her short behavior, Alpha Declan appeared amused—perhaps even delighted.

As we watched them drive away, Bowen whispered, “Imagine what that’ll be like for the first few weeks.”

“I kind of want to see it.”

“You and me both,” Theron said.

I swung my legs as I waited for the test results from Korren’s labs. He had been closely monitoring all the Omegas since the witch attack to ensure there were no side effects of the magic.

After we finished here, the boys and I were taking a rare day off and having a picnic. We spent our mealtimes together, but work took up most of our days, and we were overdue for some alone time.

My mates sat in chairs against the wall. I was getting used to their pensiveness when it came to my health. They tried to disguise their worry, but it was a common occurrence anytime I was in the medical building.

“Relax,” I said. “You’re freaking me out.”
