I knew it was coming.
Storms like these you can’t stop.
Not when the lightening strikes and the thunder shakes the very foundation you stand upon.
Storms like these have to be fought and only survivors win.
I am more than willing to fight alongside my brothers to get rid of them once and for all. “So what do you suppose we do?” I ask him.
“We have to hit them where it hurts. Hell’s Gates,” Sticks answers.
As soon as the words leave his lips from the corner of my eyes I see Oak stiffen in his seat. The man doesn’t react much and he often doesn’t show what he’s feeling but when he does it’s subtle. And if you’re not quick enough you’ll miss it. Being a Marinetaught him well. The average man wouldn’t even notice. But I’m not average. Oak and I are too much alike with wearing masks for us not to notice when it slips off.
Sticks wanting to retaliate by going after Hell’s Gates is rubbing Oak the wrong way.
On paper it’s the perfect plan. It’s where they reside the most and majority of their money flows in through that business.
But there will also be innocent casualties if not done carefully.
One of them happening to be Alice’s closest friend Gracie Mae.
She means something to her so that makes her mean something to me, too. I’ll make sure the girl is protected before we do anything.
“There could be too many casualties,” Oak argues. And it’s there that I know his decision to against this plan something is up with him.
“Then we will find a way to go around it. We can always attack when the club is closed,” Dex offers. He’s not wrong either.
Still, there’s a hesitancy in Oak’s eyes. As they make contact with mine I can tell he’s trying to tell me something. I just don’t know what exactly.
But I have to do something to stop this plan in motion if it has Oak bothered. “Then what? They went after our strip club we go after their club. Tit for tat isn’t going to work with them. The only way to solve the problem is to get rid of them. By death or forcing them out. Something tells me they won’t be too privy of the latter.”
Oak subtly nods his head my way and I tip my chin upwards at him.
We’ll talk about this later but now is not the time.
Sticks huffs out his frustrations but deep down he knows that I am right.
They all do.
“Then we will figure something out. Until next time church is over.”
We all file out of the room one by one.
Before I can ask Oak about his reservations towards the plan earlier I hear my name come out of Haven’s mouth.
“So why did you let Snake back in your life?” I stay back, concealed so that I can eavesdrop on their conversation. Not the best thing to do but not the worst thing I have done either.
And I am rather curious to hear what Alice has to say.
It seems like I’m holding out my breath for her response.
Then I hear her voice, soft and angelic. “Because I can’t imagine my life without him in it.”
Her words. Those exact words are ones we mirrored to each other awhile ago.
I remember that night vividly.
“Do you ever think that one day we will be apart?” She asks me in a soft voice. So soft that I almost don’t hear her.
