Disorientation muddled my mind when I woke up with a thick arm about my waist and the setting sun throwing an orange glow over my face.

I shifted in the bed, turning to see Logan fast asleep beside me, his face softer than I was used to seeing it.

Sliding out from under him, I rolled out of his massive bed and stretched before looking for my linens. They were nowhere to be seen, still out in the garden where he’d torn them off, most likely.

The t-shirt he’d let me borrow sat high on my thighs, barely covering my ass where my hips flared out most. It would have to do until I got to my room.

Logan stirred when I unlatched the door and I held my breath. As wonderful as it had been to snuggle up and fall asleep with him, I knew I needed to guard my heart. As fun as it was getting to live out my fantasies, I had to keep reminding myself it was just sex. Nothing more. A few days of explicit fun before we went our separate ways.

Until I had to pretend I barely knew him at their wedding.

The thought was already a donkey punch to the chest.

Back in my room, I sat on the bed and pulled out my phone, bringing up Lara’s number and waiting as it rang.

‘How’s it going?’ she said as she answered. ‘Have you landed your prey yet?’

‘Maybe....’

‘Holy shit, V, for real?’

‘Yeah. He bid for me at the auction.’

‘Wait, he paid for you?’

‘Kind of. But it wasn’t about the money. He paid to win the chance to hunt me down.’

‘Did he catch you?’

I flopped back on the bed and grinned. ‘You could say that.’

‘Ahhhh! Was it amazing? Or was he a big fat disappointment?’

‘Something was big and fat, but it was in no way disappointing.’

‘Oh, my god. Like how big?’

‘Big enough that it made me cry.’

‘Is that good?’

I laughed. ‘Yes, it’s good.’

‘A package came for you. A big padded envelope. I’ve popped it in your room.’

I wasn’t expecting anything. Had I ordered something and forgotten?

‘Can you open it?’

‘Yeah, of course.’

I listened as she put the phone down, hearing her feet padding through our flat and a rustle as she came back. ‘I’ll put you on video, two seconds.’

Her face popped up at the kitchen counter as she held up the envelope. I shrugged, still none the wiser about it. Lara tore at the paper edge of the envelope before tipping out its contents.

‘What is it?’ I asked.

‘Fuck.’
