‘It sounds stupid.’

‘It’s just complicated.’

‘So you have to spend your life pretending to be one person in public and hiding this sexy ass dom side of you online?’

‘I’m allowed to do what I like as long as it’s discreet and drama free. We both are.’

‘But it won’t make you happy.’

‘No, probably not.’

‘Is your dad forcing you to marry her?’ I asked.

‘No, he’s dead. It’s why I need to honour the legacy he was building. To make sure it was all worthwhile.’

‘Wouldn’t he want you to be happy?’

He laughed again. ‘Happiness wasn’t high on his radar of wants for his kids. What about you? Do you enjoy this being your job?’

I placed my chin on my hand and mulled it over.

‘Sometimes. I enjoy being able to make a good living on my own terms. I’m the black sheep in my family and I’d prefer to keep it that way as long as it cuts off any power over me. Plus, I like sex, so being able to come for cash is way better than anything else I’d be qualified for.’

‘What’s your end goal?’

‘Just to be happy. To live the way I want. To find a guy who can put up with my job and still treat me well. Outside of the bedroom, at least.’

I glanced at the clock and winced. We’d been on the private call for over an hour and he’d be wracking up a hell of a bill. ‘I should really let you get on...’

‘No... keep it on.’

‘You want to go again already?’ I asked, raising an eyebrow.

‘Just keep me company awhile. My house is so damned quiet.’

‘It will cost you so much...’ Guilt bit into me. But I wanted him to hang around, too.

‘Money’s not an issue. Happy for you to have it.’

‘Okay, but I have knitting that I’m trying to finish for the lady downstairs. Her baby is due any day and I’m so far behind.’

My cheeks heated as he laughed. ‘You knit?’

‘Yeah, my grandma taught me when I was wee. It’s pretty relaxing.’

‘You are one sexy little enigma, Miss Cherry. Go knit. I’m going to lie down and read for a bit.’

I gathered up my knitting and picked up the tiny rainbow cardigan I was working on, counting in my head as I sat back against my pillows and relaxed. Occasionally, I’d glance back up at the screen where I could see my cam-man laying on his bed, still just from the chest down. As my needles clacked rhythmically, his breath settled until he slipped into sleep. The soft sound of his breathing was enticing, and I wanted nothing more than to curl up beside him and rest my head on his muscled, tattoo covered chest.

I left the computer on for as long as I could, until my fingers ached and my eyes itched from tiredness.

‘Good night, Sir,’ I whispered, before clicking off of the site and closing my computer down.

CHAPTER TEN

LOGAN

Nicole flitted from group to group as I trailed along behind her, making conversation with the endless sea of people I didn’t know. From family members, to friends and acquaintances, to business associates, our engagement party was proving to be a baptism of fire.
