“He didn’t make love to me today.”

Mary sighs. “You don’t have to tell me so much about what goes on in here.”

“Don’t be mean. You know you’re my only ally here,” I groan.

“Now—now, calling me an ally is pushing it a bit.”

I chuckle and inhale the sweet scent from the bath.

“You didn’t hear this from me,” Mary starts to say in a lower octave, “but I overheard the guards talking about Antonio on my way up here.”

I lean over the side of the tub in interest.

“It would appear that the brothers are having a bit of tension over you.” She inhales and straightens away from the tub. “He practically raised both brothers after their parents died, and I don’t care what anyone says, he loves both of them to death. Maybe the reason he’s blue isn’t because he hates you. He might just be having a bit of a difficult time.”

I sigh. “Great. Now he definitely won’t look at me.”

Mary squeezes a bit of shampoo into her hands and begins to work on my hair.

“Have you considered that you might be the one person who gives him a bit of comfort?”

I chuckle. “He hates me, and he would probably put a bullet through my head if I piss him off.”

“True, but if he hated you that much, he would have done that when you ran off the first time.”

I fall silent.

“Do you think that I can comfort Antonio?”

“Without getting killed?” Mary adds.

I nod.

She shrugs. “You won’t know if you don’t try.”

I sigh heavily.

“Dear?”

“Yes, Mary.”

“Your nipples are definitely bigger.”

“Mary!”

I decide to give her advice a try. My golden chance came when I heard the maids whispering that he hadn’t had anything to eat all day.

I warmed up some leftovers, and I brought them to him.

When he pulled out his gun, I wasn’t surprised. For some reason, I knew he wouldn’t pull the trigger. When he pushed me to the wall, strangling me, I knew for sure that he wasn’t going to hurt me. He wasn’t squeezing hard enough.

Just like that, my plan was back on track. Only that somewhere between pulling his strings, he began to pull mine. And now he was laughing with me. I had never seen him laugh.

His eyes were genuinely tired, and I saw that there were circles under them. His hair was a bit overgrown, but it fell beautifully over his forehead. In those few moments, when he doubled up laughing, his face lit up, and I saw someone different.

I saw the man whom I naively had a crush on years ago. The man whom I had thought of as I brought myself to pleasure, muttering his name as I came while looking at his pictures.

It was perverted, I know. I had forgotten how much he had once consumed my thoughts.
