“Am I, Antonio? Weren’t you with me a few hours ago?” I ask.

The smile on her face goes away immediately, and she turns to him.

“What is she saying?”

I smile at her and turn to Antonio.

“Did I say something wrong? Doesn’t she know you were with me a few minutes ago?”

My eyes meet his, but he isn’t my target. I turn to her.

“Maybe it’s not me who is deluded,” I tell her.

“That’s enough,” comes Antonio’s voice. “Take her back to her room, Mary, and have guards placed at the entrance,” he says.

Mary bows and grabs my arms.

“I’ll be waiting for you tonight,” I tell him before Mary drags me off.

“Who is she really?” I hear the woman asking him as we leave. From the shakiness in her voice, I know that I won this round.

Chapter Fourteen

Antonio

“I don’t like her,” Vivian huffs as I walk her to her car. “Did you see how she spoke to me? I don’t trust her. You have to get rid of her,” she says, stopping and turning to me.

I sigh. “I apologize,” I say.

She pouts as she meets my eyes, holding onto her bag.

“You aren’t really married to her, are you?” she asks, searching my face.

“Vivian, I’ll handle this. You should go home and get some rest,” I say.

She clings to my arm. “Why aren’t you answering? Are you really married to her?” she asks.

I gently pull her away from me. “What does it matter to you? You broke off our engagement, didn’t you?”

She sighs. “You’re still salty about that? You acted like you didn’t care then,” she says.

I sigh. “Whatever, Vivian. Let me know when you get home,” I say dismissively.

“I wasn’t sure if you loved me,” she says immediately.

I stop in my tracks, and she grabs my arms.

“You were always so polite and gentle, treating me like a baby sister. I wanted a lover whom I could bicker and fight with,” she says, looking at me.

I inhale. “So you broke off the engagement because I wouldn’t pick a fight?”

She groans and pulls me tighter. “I was foolish. Now I know that I was so wrong,” she says, leaning in. “I want you now so badly,” she says, running her fingers down my chest. I grab her hands and gently remove them.

“That ship sailed long ago, Vivian,” I say.

She pulls away, and her face contorts.

“So, what now? Do you want to continue messing around with that nobody? She’s a mere plaything. Isn’t it too much to reject me because of her?” she says through quivering lips.
