My breath came out in a heated gasp when he walked out of the door, his steps confident. I had already turned myself on so damn much trying to rile him up, and now I had to spend the night with my toy. The man was a saint for a serial fucking killer. I waited for him to turn back, change his mind, and come running back, but he didn’t. His self-control was impressive.

I didn’t expect him to be so logical or sensible, and it had thrown a wrench into my plans. But of course, this wouldn’t stop me. I knew he wanted me just as badly as I wanted him.

He was such a glorious contradiction, and the overwhelming desire to unravel him grew inside me, burning as hot as my need to kill. I wanted to peel away his layers, tear through his skin, dig deeper through his bones to reach his soul, and find him. Find him and fuck him.

Sounds bloody and murderous. Kat tittered.

I longed to find him in ways that would drive him to the brink of madness until there was nowhere for him to run or hide. He’d come to me, and I’d use him for his body.

“I’ll find a way to break you, Ryden Sinclair. Don’t worry. I’m so good at finding ways to break men.”

I sensed his desire in the greedy gleam of his eyes when he looked at me. It was no pretense, and yet, here I was. Fucking alone.

“Well?” said Irene as she came out. I laughed, and she looked at me like I had lost my mind. Well, I lost it a long time ago. A very long time.

I sank onto the couch Ryden had just been sitting on, and his lingering scent enveloped me—dark and enticing, a blend of sins and secrets.

“Come on, don’t keep me in the dark. The anticipation is killing me,” Irene said, a look of utter curiosity in her eyes as she rubbed her hands together.

“There’s nothing to get excited about, Re-Re. The man’s a fucking saint,” I said with a frown, thinking about how hot his skin felt under my fingers and then how he looked at me like I was madness itself when he said no. “He said no.”

“Is he blind? Or… maybe he’s gay?” Irene said as she washed the mugs and put them away. “I added more rum than hot chocolate for the special occasion.”

My smile was fond as I stood up and placed my chin on her shoulder, and she stopped with a huff.

“He’s neither blind nor gay. I knew he wanted me, but he’s good. He told me wanting me was stupidity, and then he left.” Just fucking like that. Pulling me in with those eyes, even when he pushed me away with his words.

Irene turned back to look at me with a smile. “He can see you’re crazy as fuck.”

“Ow, you wound me, Re-Re.”

“The man is smart. That’s why Ryden Sinclair is still outside and not in prison,” Irene said with a knowing look in my direction. “That’s why when he finally gives in, it’ll taste sweeter.”

I stared at her, and she gave me a salacious wink.

“You’re obnoxious,” I said with a laugh, throwing a dish towel in her direction. It landed straight on her face. She pulled it away and gave me a look, her eyes wide and innocent.

“I meant the victory, not his cum, Yara. You have such a dirty mind.” She took a seat on the couch.

Rolling my eyes, I sat next to her. “You did not mean victory. You certainly meant his cum,” I said with a smile, and she laughed.

“So why did he say no? I thought you said he wanted you as well?”

“He did. He does, but he also said he has someone. Not a girlfriend, but they’re definitely fucking each other.”

“Like you and Josh,” Irene said. “Josh is boring. Ryden doesn’t sound boring. Not at all.”

“Josh isn’t boring. He’s predictable, easy, and safe. Completely safe. Ryden’s not… safe.” I closed my eyes with a smirk. He wasn’t, which made me all the more eager to have him.

“That’s why you want him. Because he’s dangerous. You’re you, Yara, and safe doesn’t excite you,” she said with a short laugh, her eyes gleaming. “You need the chase.” She understood me well enough to know that she was right.

“You can’t always have what you want,” I said, shrugging. “You know that.”

She laughed. “When has that ever stopped you?” Her light green eyes were sparkling as she leaned against the couch, tapping her fingers against the coffee table. “I can see you’re already plotting to get him. I can see the trickle of self-satisfaction and excitement in your eyes. You’re getting ready for a hunt. And this time, the prey’s Ryden. The end of the hunt will get you an orgasm, maybe, or two.”

“Well, I did think about seducing him outright, but I’ve decided to wait and do it subtly. I’ll give him some time to make it his hunt,” I said, running my finger through my hair.

I knew waiting was going to be hard, but it would be worthwhile.
