She is mine.

That thought stops me in my tracks like a bucket of ice-cold water dumped on my head.

“Aftermath, what’s wrong?” Kensi asks. She must feel the tightness in my body. “Did I do something wrong?” The confidence she was showing wilts away when I don’t answer her. I can’t answer her. She’s not the problem, I am. I’m not good enough for someone as sweet as Kensi.

She wiggles out of my hold and I let her. She’s standing in front of me, holding back tears as I’m struck dumbfounded. “If you don’t want me, just say it Aftermath.” The anger, hurt and frustration evident in her tone.

I should tell her. I should stop her from leaving but I don’t. I’m an asshole as I watch Kensi straighten her spine and walk away. I deserve it. I don’t deserve her. I’m a cold hearted killer and the last thing I need is to extinguish the light she brings to everyone around her. She deserves more than I can give her.

Now I have to suffer the consequences of Kensi walking away from me. I have a job to do and I have to focus all my energy on eliminating this jackoff, not the best part of me I let go because I’m a pussy.

Chapter 4

Kensi

I hear the rumble of bikes firing up and pulling out of the garage. I want to be out there sending Aftermath off, but after earlier I know I’m not welcomed like an Ol’ lady. Capone, Blayze, Torch, Red, Trigger and Derange are escorting Aftermath, Tiny and Dagger to the freeway to make sure they get off safely.

The Clubhouse is quiet as my heart breaks, but I have a job to do. Even if Aftermath left me heartbroken, I’m not going to let it stop me from avenging Silver Grace. She confessed what happened to her and now it’s my turn to help her. Silver Grace told me her boss at Foxy Ladies wanted her to do more than perform and when she refused, he had his men beat the shit out of her and dump her on our doorstep. Silver Grace also thinks something else is going on. Girls keep disappearing, like they never even existed and my investigative instincts, thanks to my dad, are kicking in. I have to do something about it.

It’s how I ended up with Bloody Scorpions in the first place. I was following a lead on one of my missing friends since my dad’s company didn’t take me seriously and refused to listen. I was chasing her down when Bloody Scorpions caught me snooping around their warehouse, looking for Beth. I didn’t end up finding her, nor anymore signs of where she went to.

“Kensi, you good?” Jezebelle asks pulling me out of my thoughts.

“Yeah, I am. Hey,” I hesitate. I don’t know if I should bring Jezebelle into this or not.

“What is it?” She asks and takes a seat next to me at the bar.

“Nothing.”

“C’mon out with it. Does it have anything to do with Bear? I mean Aftermath?”

I shake my head, “No.”

“You can tell me. I’ve been in your shoes before and it’s not a fun place to be. I wish I had someone to talk to when Derange and I were trying to figure things out.”

“It’s not that. I know where Aftermath and I stand. He made it perfectly clear before he left.” The bitterness in my voice is unmistakable.

“Are you sure about that?” Jezebelle raises a brow.

“You didn’t see him the way I did. One minute I’m pinned against the wall with his tongue down my throat and the next he let me walk away.” The memory of rejection is still fresh in my mind.

“Oh, honey. He didn’t let you walk away. My guess, he freaked the hell out. He’s never had a woman tip his world upside down and that’s what you’re doing to him. Even if you aren’t trying.”

Listening to Jezebelle makes me feel better. “What do I do?”

“Keep doing you. That’s what attracted him in the first place. He’ll see he’s an idiot and will come around.” Jezebelle props her arm on the bar and leans forward. “There’s something else bothering you. What is it?”

I hesitate before blurting it out. “Silver Grace told me what happened and now I want to go undercover as a stripper to stop her asshole boss.”

Jezebelle’s eyes grown wide. “Holy shit. We need to go to Capone. He can authorize this with the Club’s protection.”

“Do you think he will?”

“Only one way to find out.” Jezebelle pulls me off the bar stool and she’s knocking on his office door before I can process what’s happening.

“Come in.” Capone’s deep voice authorizes us to enter.

“Hey, Prez. Do you have a minute?” Jezebelle asks.
