She shakes her head as she blinks up at me in the dim light of the room. “I questioned things after Kirk…”
“Don’t even.” I place my forefinger over her lips. “That asshole’s cheating is on him, remember?”
“I know, but it made me wonder. I’m not twenty anymore.” She looks down at her body like that’s supposed to tell me something.
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
“Brook, I had a baby, things change.”
“They didn’t change, baby doll. And if they did, I don’t care, and I never noticed anyway. I loved every inch of you then, and I do now.”
“You haven’t even seen all of me yet, and the light in here is dim.”
“Is this because of that asshole again?”
“It didn’t do much for my confidence,” she admits. “And I know, that’s on him, not me. But it still makes a girl wonder.”
“Wonder what, exactly?”
“If I’ve still got it.”
She has to be crazy if she thinks she doesn’t still have it. I know for a fact she keeps fit and looks after herself.
“Well, rest assured you do still got it. You’re a hot woman, E. So wonder no more.”
“Are you slightly biased because I’m the mother of your child?”
“Our child, and no, I’m not just saying it because of that.” I snuggle into her neck and grace the skin there with some more peppered kisses and she giggles.
“Brooke, we're not twenty anymore! Are we really doing this on the couch.”
“I was happy to do it in the truck but you wouldn’t let me.”
She swipes my arm again.
“Hay bales it is then,” I joke.
“What I would give.”
“You’d still do that?” I noted the sigh in her voice and I’m ecstatic she would even come out with it. It’s always been my best fantasy.
“Maybe, but not at your parents’ place.”
“Oh, come on. Where’s your sense of adventure?”
“I think I left it back along the roadside, along with my mind.”
“This is a little crazy,” I admit. “But I’m loving every second of it. I hope you are too.”
“I’ll be loving it even more when you get your pants off.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
I reach for my top button and she helps me unzip, the eager little thing.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I ask her. We did just return from the hospital after all.
“I’m fine, I’ll let you know if it gets to be too much on my hip.”
